29 Who crieth: "Woe !" Who crieth: "Woe is me!" Who hath quarrels? Who uttereth complainings? Who hath redness of eyes? 30 They who tarry late over wine They who go about to seek after wine. 31 Look not thou upon wine, when it is redWhen it sparkleth in the cup When it goeth down smoothly. 32 In the end, it will bite, as doth a serpent, Yea, it will wound, like an adder. 33 Thine eyes will look upon strange women, And thy heart will speak perverse things. 34 And thou shalt be, like one lying down to sleep, 35 In the midst of the sea; Yea, like one, who lieth down to sleep, Upon the top of a mast. 66 They have stricken me-I suffered no pain! "They have beaten me-I felt nothing! "O that I were awake!-I would seek it yet again!" 1 Be not envious against wicked men, Nor desire to be with them. 2 For their heart meditateth destruction, And their lips speak mischief. 3 By wisdom is a house builded, And it is established by understanding. 4 Yea, by knowledge the chambers are filled, With all precious and goodly substance. 5 A wise man is mighty, Yea, a man of knowledge is powerful in strength; 6 For, after good deliberation, thou wilt war with success, And there is safety in a multitude of counsellors. 7 Wisdom is too lofty for a fool; He openeth not his mouth at the gate. 8 He, who planneth to do evil- 9 A foolish imagination is sinful; But a scoffer is the abomination of men. 10 Dost thou faint in the day of calamity? In calamity put forth thy strength. 11 Rescue those who are taken to death, Yea, those who totter and are ready to be slain. Dost thou refrain? 12 If thou shouldest say: "Behold, we know not this man!" Doth not He, who weigheth the heart, discern this? Yea, He, who keepeth thy life, knoweth it, And He will render to a man according to his doings. 13 As thou, O my son, eatest honey, Because it is pleasant; And the droppings of the honeycomb, Which are sweet to thy palate; 14 So let the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul. If thou attain unto it; Then shall there be a reward, And thine expectation shall not be cut off. 15 O wicked man, plot not against the dwelling of the just, Nor despoil his place of rest. 16 If the just man fall many times, yet will he rise again; But the wicked will be overthrown by calamity. 17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, Nor let thy heart exult when he stumbleth; 18 Lest JEHOVAH see, and it be evil in his sight, And He turn His anger from him. 19 Be not angry with evil men, Be not envious against the wicked; 20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man The lamp of the wicked shall be extinguished. 21 my son, reverence JEHOVAH and the king, And associate not with those, who are fond of change. 22 For suddenly shall calamity rise up against them! THESE ALSO ARE PROVERBS OF THE WISE. 23 It is not good to respect persons in a decision. 24 They, who say unto the wicked man: “Thou art righteous" Them the people will curse. The nation will detest them! 25 But men will delight in those, who rebuke him, Who pronounceth a right sentence. 27 Settle thy work without, And prepare it in thy field; Afterwards thou mayest build thy house. 28 Be not a witness, without cause, against thy neighbour; Nor deceive with thy lips. 29 Say not thou: "As he hath done unto me, "So will I do unto him— "I will render to the man, "According to his doings." |
