At fourteen years of age,fed fex, fent to the college Mazarin in that city, as a day fcholar, where the was no lefs diftinguifhed for her pro ficiency in literature than for the regularity of her conduct. When he had completed her education at that feminary, fhe learned to ride the great horfe, and to fence; which latter exercife has been always one of her favourite purfuits. She then became doctor of civil and of canon law, and was received advocate of the parliament of Paris.

CHARLOTTE Lhee D'Eon Du Beaumont, doctor of civil and canon law, advocate of the parliament of Paris, cenfor for Belles Lettres and for hiftory in that metropolis, captain of dragoons, and aid du camp royal to the count and field marshal Broglio, knight of the royal and military order of St. Louis, fecretary of embaffy to the marquis de l'Hôpital, minifter plenipotentiary to the court of Ruffia, fecretary of embaffy to the duke de Nivernois, ambaffador from the court of France to that of England, and afterwards minifter plenipotentiary herself at the fame court, was born Oct. 4, 1728, at Tonnerre in Burgundy.

Her love of literature fill did not forfake her, and he found time to publifh many fmall miscellaneous pieces, as the Life of Langlet du Frefnoy, in the Année Literaire of Freron; the Funeral Eulogium of Marié d'Efte, duchefs of Penthievre, and another on the count d'Ons en Bray, prefident of the Academy of Sciences at Paris, both in Latin, and in the fame periodical work.

Her family is mentioned as an ancient one, in the Genealogical Dictionary of De Bois de la Chef Her grandfather and father were fucceffively under-inrendants of the generality of Paris; and her The late excellent prince of Conti, mother was Francoife du Charenton, daughter of M. du Charenton, (who knew the fecret of her fex, ecuyer, who was commiflaire ordon-and who had long honoured her
