oppression, strife, sedition, heresies, divisions, revenge, murder. Deceit, lying, flattery, hypocrisy, covetousness, niggardliness, dishonesty, cheating, over-reaching, extortion, theft. No reference to the Divine will and commands, in the exercise of temperance, diligence, honesty, compassion, and liberality, which often exist, but arise from other motives that have no regard to God. Neglect of the duties of Rulers and Subjects, Ministers of Christ and People, Husbands and Wives, Parents and Children, Masters and Servants, to each other, as those duties are required to be discharged in the Word of God. Presuming upon long continuance in this life. Seeking the praise of men, and not the approbation of God.

The end of these things is death.

Rom. vi. 21.

Put ye on the new man which after [the image of] God, is created in righteousness and true holiness. Ephes. iv. 24.

IN the whole of God's revealed will, in the doctrines, the commands, the threatenings, and the promises of His Word. Faith in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost, three Persons and one God. Habitual acknowledgment of God in His works of nature and in the dispensations of His Providence. Deep sense of the awful condition of man by nature, as born in sin, and under the wrath of God. The looking upon sin as the transgression of

God's holy law, and as dishonoring God, and putting Christ to open shame. Regarding God's laws as reaching to the thoughts and desires of the heart, and bringing men to the knowledge of sin; acknowledgment that by the law, all are subject to eternal death, because all have sinned. Conviction of sin. Repentance. Confession before

God, of natural and actual sinfulness in His sight. Thankful sense of God's unspeakable love to man, in his creation, preservation, and above all, in the Redemption of mankind by the atoning blood and prevailing intercession of Jesus Christ. Faith in Him as the Son of God and the Son of man, the only Redeemer to save, the only Mediator to intercede, the only supreme Lord to rule over man, the only Judge to determine man's eternal condition. Care of the soul as the one thing needful. Seeking first and chiefly the kingdom of God and His righteousness, believing in the promise that needful food, raiment, and lodging will be added by God's blessing, upon dutiful exertion.

Earnest seeking of spiritual understanding, of pardon and reconciliation, justification and acceptance, sanctification and life, from God through the mediation of Christ, by the operation of the Holy Spirit. Desire to abound in the fruits of the Spirit. Aiming after an abiding fear and love of God and sense of His presence.

respect to all His commandments. Habit of constant prayer and communion with God in Christ's name, both at church, and with the family, and in private. Watchfulness over the world, the flesh, and the Devil. Constant, thoughtful and devout reading and hearing of the word of God, meditating upon it, and comparison of faith and practice with its requirements. Hallowing the Sabbath as a day holy unto the Lord. Diligent and devout waiting upon God in the ordinances of Christ's Church, her prayers, her reading, expounding and preaching the word of God, her administration of the Sacrament of Baptism, of the rite of Confirmation, and the Sacrament of the Supper
