The Revs. J. Andrew Harris, S. T. D., James Haughton, J. D. Newlin, D. D., J. DeWolf Perry, D. D., and T. A. Tidball, D. D., were declared by the President duly elected the Clerical members of the Standing Committee for the ensuing year.

Consideration of Section 2 of proposed Canon VIII was continued.

Mr. Wood accepted the amendment offered by Mr. Goodwin.

A vote being taken on Mr. Wood's amendment as amended, it was adopted.

The Rev. Dr. Fulton offered the following amendment: Insert the words "when present present" after preside" in line 17.

A vote being taken, the amendment was adopted. The Rev. L. R. F. Davis offered the following amendment: Strike out the words "of all Convocations" in line 18.

A vote being taken, the amendment was not adopted.

Mr. Harold Goodwin offered the following amendment: Strike out the words after "shall" in line 20 and all of line 21, and insert the following: "three thousand dollars per annum."

A vote being taken, the amendment was not adopted.

Mr. L. S. Landreth offered the following amend

ment:

Resolved, To amend Canon VIII as reported by the Special Committee by striking out so much of said Canon as provides for the payment of the Archdeacon out of the Convention Fund, and inserting in lieu thereof the words "the salary shall be paid by the Board of Missions."

A vote being taken, the resolution was adopted.

The Rev. Robert Ritchie offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That the hour for adjournment of this session be extended to 7 o'clock.

A vote being taken, the resolution was not adopted.

On motion of Mr. Lewis, it was resolved that the proposed Canon VIII, Section 2, be the order of the day immediately after the reading and approval of the minutes at the next day's session of the Convention.

Mr. Richardson L. Wright moved that the Convention adjourn to Thursday at 10 o'clock A. M.

Mr. Wright gave consent to withhold action on his motion to adjourn, in order that the following resolution might be considered.

On motion, it was resolved to reconsider the resolution offered by the Rev. Dr. Duhring.

The Secretary offered the following resolution as a substitute for the resolution of the Rev. Dr. Duhring:

Resolved, That the thanks of this Convention be conveyed to the

Committee of Arrangements, and that the bills for the lunches provided be paid by the Treasurer of the Diocese, and that the Committee be continued.

On motion, the substitute was adopted.

Action recurring on the motion of Mr. Wright, the Convention adjourned to Thursday, 10 o'clock

The session was opened with prayer by the Bishop of the Diocese.

The minutes of Wednesday were read and approved.

The Rev. Dr. Harris asked permission to withdraw his amendment to Section 2 of proposed Canon VIII. On motion, the permission was granted.

The Rev. W. B. Bodine, D. D., renewed the resolution offered by the Rev. Dr. Harris at the previous session, as follows:

Resolved, That Section 2 of proposed Canon VIII be amended by striking out the first two sentences and insert the following: "An Archdeacon may be appointed by the Bishop with the approval of the Board of Missions, shall have charge of the Missionary work of the Diocese under the direction of the Bishop, and who, during his continuance in office, shall not hold any parochial charge."

Mr. F. A. Lewis moved to lay the resolution on the table.

A vote being taken, the motion was not carried. A vote being taken on the Rev. Dr. Bodine's resolution, it was not adopted, on division:

Mr. Rowland Evans offered the following resolution:

Resolved, That a vote be taken on Section 2, as amended, so soon as the debate thereon shall be terminated.

Mr. Harold Goodwin raised a point of order, viz: That the resolution of Mr. Evans was unparliamentary, and inadmissible.

The Bishop said: "The point of order was well taken as to the resolution being unparliamentary, but since it is manifestly the desire of the Convention to have an expression of opinion upon the main question, I will admit the resolution."

A vote being taken on Section 2 of proposed Canon VIII as amended, viz:

SEC. 2. All Missionary work in the Diocese shall be under the direction of an Archdeacon, subject to the supervision and control of the Bishop. The Archdeacon shall be appointed by the Bishop, with the approval of the majority of the whole Diocesan Board of Missions, and during his continuance in office shall not hold any parochial charge. He may be removed at any time by the Bishop for cause satisfactory to himself. The Archdeacon shall be ex officio a member of the Board of Missions, of each Convocation and of all Boards and Committees organized by the authority of the Convention of the Diocese for special Missionary work. And in the absence of the Bishop he shall preside, when present, at the meetings of all Convocations, of the Board of Missions and of all other Boards and Committees above mentioned. The salary of the Archdeacon shall be fixed by standing resolution of the Convention passed prior to his appointment, and shall not be reduced during his term of office. The salary shall be paid by the Board of Missions:
