IV. 3. 11s & 9s.

Music in S. S. Chant and Tune Book, p. 126; Parish Hymnal, p. 166.

THINK when I read that sweet story of old,
When Jesus was here among men,

How He called little children as lambs to his fold,
I should like to have been with them then.

2 I wish that his hands had been placed on my head, That his arm had been thrown around me,

And that I might have seen his kind look when He said,

"Let the little ones come unto me."

may go,

3 Yet still to his footstool in prayer I
And ask for a share in his love;
And if I thus earnestly seek Him below,
I shall see Him and hear Him above;
4 In that beautiful place He is gone to prepare
For all who are washed and forgiven;
Full many dear children are gathering there,
"For of such is the kingdom of heaven."

5 But thousands and thousands who wander and fall, Never heard of that heavenly home;

I wish they could know there is room for them all,
And that Jesus has bid them to come.

6 And O, how I long for that glorious time,
The sweetest and brightest and best,
When the dear little children of every clime
Shall crowd to his arms and be blest.

HEN little Samuel woke,

Wand heard his Maker's voice,

At every word he spoke,

How much did he rejoice!

O blessed, happy child! to find
The God of heaven so near and kind.

15

2 If God would speak to me,
And say He was my Friend,
How happy should I be!

O, how would I attend!

The smallest sin I then should fear,
If God Almighty were so near.
3 And does He never speak?
O yes; for in his Word

He bids me come and seek

The God whom Samuel heard:

In almost every page I see,
The God of Samuel calls to me.
4 And I, beneath his care,

May safely rest my head;
I know that God is there,
To guard my humble bed:
And every sin I may well fear,
Since God Almighty is so near.
5 Like Samuel, let me say,
Whene'er I read his Word,
"Speak, Lord: I would obey

The voice that Samuel heard: "
And when I in thy house appear,
Speak, for thy servant waits to hear.

AROUND the throne of God in heaven

Thousands of children stand,

Children whose sins are all forgiven,
A holy, happy band,

Singing Glory! glory!

[ocr errors]

Glory be to God on high.

2 In flowing robes of spotless white,
See every one arrayed,
Dwelling in everlasting light,
And joys that cannot fade.
Singing Glory! glory!
Glory be to God on high.

3 What brought them to that world above,
That heaven so bright and fair,

Where all is peace, and joy, and love,
How came those children there?
Singing Glory! glory!

Glory be to God on high.

4 Because the Saviour shed his blood
To wash away their sin

;

Cleansed by that pure and precious flood,
Behold them white and clean.

Singing Glory! glory!

Glory be to God on high.

5 On earth they sought the Saviour's grace,
On earth they loved his name;

So now they see Him face to face,
And stand before the Lamb.

JESUS bids us shine,

With a clear pure light,

Like a little candle,
Burning in the night.
In the world is darkness,
So we must shine -

You in your small corner,
And I in mine.

2 Jesus bids us shine

First of all for Him;

Well He sees and knows it,
If our light is dim.

He looks down from heaven

To see us shine

You in your small corner,
And I in mine.

3. Jesus bids us shine
Then for all around,

For many kinds of darkness
In the world are found
Sin, and want, and sorrow;
So we must shine

You in your small corner,
And I in mine.

Speak no angry word:

Ye belong to Jesus,

Children of the Lord.
Christ is kind and gentle,
Christ is pure and true,
And his little children
Must be holy too.

2 There's a wicked spirit
Watching round you still,
And he tries to tempt you
To all harm and ill.
But ye must not hear him,
Though 'tis hard for you.
To resist the evil,

And the good to do.

3. For ye promised truly,
In your infant days,
To renounce him wholly,
And forsake his ways.
Christ is your own Master,
He is good and true,
And his little children

Must be holy too.

LITTLE drops of water,

Little grains of sand,

Make the mighty ocean
And the beauteous land;
2 And the little moments,
Humble though they be,
Make the mighty ages
Of eternity.

3 So our little errors
Lead the soul away
From the paths of virtue,
Oft in sin to stray.

4 Little deeds of kindness,
Little words of love,
Make our earth an Eden,

Like the heaven above.
5 Little seeds of mercy,

Sown by youthful hands,
Grow to bless the nations
Far in heathen lands.

ON'T think there is nothing

For children to do,

Because they can't work like a man ;
The harvest is great

And the laborers few:

Then, children, do all that you can.

CHORUS.

Children, do all that you can;
Children, do all that you can;
The harvest is great

And the laborers few:

[ocr errors]

Then, children, do all that you can.
