CHAPTER CLXXIII.

A further supplement to an act entitled "An act to revise and amend the charter of the City of Trenton," approved March fifteenth, one thousand eight hundred and sixtysix.

WHEREAS, the financial condition of the city of Trenton is embarrassed, owing to the non-payment, last year, of a large part of the taxes due to the county of Mercer from the said city, and the necessary payment this year of certain improvement bonds, the payment of which was predicated upon the collection of certain assessments still in litigation; therefore,

Amount of poll tax, and how raised.

CHAPTER CLXXIV.

An act to authorize the raising of a poll tax for school purposes in the townships of Deptford, Greenwich, and West Deptford, in the county of Gloucester.

1. BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey, That there shall be raised in each year hereafter, in the townships of Deptford, Greenwich, and West Deptford, in the county of Gloucester, in addition to the taxes now authorized by law, a poll tax of one dollar, to be applied for the purposes of public schools, which shall be assessed on every taxable inhabitant in the said townships of Deptford, Greenwich, and West Deptford, and which said poll tax shall be assessed, levied, and collected at the same time as other township taxes in said townships are assessed, levied, and collected.

2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect immediately.

CHAPTER CLXXV.

A further supplement to an act entitled "An act to incorporate the chosen freeholders in the respective counties. of the state," approved April sixteenth, eighteen hundred and forty-six.

BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey, That the provisions of "A supplement approved to the act entitled 'an act to incorporate the chosen free- 1965, deholders of the several counties of this state," which said operative supplement was approved April sixth, eighteen hundred and in Gloucessixty-five, shall not hereafter be operative or have effect in, or apply to the county of Gloucester; and that the publication of the account required by the forty-third section of the act to which this is a supplement, shall be sufficient in the said county.

CHAPTER CLXXVI.

A further supplement to an act entitled "An act to establish a free school at Fort Lee, in the county of Bergen," approved March sixth, eighteen hundred and fifty.

3. And be it enacted, That all acts and parts of acts inconsistent with the provisions of this act be and the same are hereby repealed.

4. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect immediately.

CHAPTER CLXXXV.

An act to authorize the issue and sale of seventy-five thousand dollars of Hudson County Bonds for the purpose of constructing a new iron and stone bridge over the Passaic river at Bridge street, Newark.

1. And be it enacted, That said bonds shall be sold by the How sold. county collector and director of the board, and said director and county collector shall sign said bonds, and the same signed and shall be sealed with the county seal, and the county collect- how sealed. or shall number and register the same, and said bonds may be coupon or registered bonds, and registered bonds may at any time be exchanged for coupon bonds, or coupon bonds exchanged for registered bonds, at the option of the holders thereof; provided the board of chosen freeholders by resolu- Proviso. tion shall consent to such exchange; said bonds to bear interest at the rate of seven per centum per annum, and shall be payable semi-annually; and said bonds shall have thirty years to run, and a sufficient sum to pay the interest on said bonds shall be placed in the tax levy of each year as long as said bonds shall run; and after the year eighteen hundred and ninety-four, there shall be placed in the tax levy each year the sum of seven thousand five hundred dollars for the payment of the principal of said bonds, until the whole. principal sum shall be raised; and the sums thus raised for the payment of the bonds shall be placed in the sinking fund and invested and managed by the sinking fund commissioners of Hudson county.

3. And be it enacted, That the money raised by the sale of Money the bonds authorized by this act shall not be used for any raised not other purpose than the construction of the iron and stone for any othbridge provided for in this act.
