A small pamphlet memorial of Gov. Joseph R. Bodwell, officially published in Augusta, Me., in 1888, gives an account of the family tradition that Henry Bodwell's name was Bothwell, and that he was a Scotch school-boy, who ran away from home. Anyway, Rev. James Noyes was his friend, and he grew up in Newbury. When Philip's war broke out in 1675, Henry was with Lothrop at Bloody brook massacre, and escaped by swinging his gun about his head with his unwounded arm.
