receive more than three dollars per day and such guards shall not receive more than two dollars per day for every day they are actually engaged in guarding the convicts, same to be paid by the County Commissioners out of the road and bridge fund; and, Provided, further, That the Board of County Commissioners shall exercise due caution and care to secure men of good moral character and otherwise best fitted to be such superintendents and such guards.

Sec. 13. The County Commissioners of each county under the provisions of this Act shall provide the road overseers of each district or subdivision with official receipt books, with receipts printed in duplicate and consecutively numbered, and the overseer shall give to each person performing labor or paying money in lieu thereof for the amount of money paid or labor performed and retain a copy thereof. Each overseer shall take an itemized receipt for all money paid out for labor or material used upon his road subdivision and make report thereof under oath to the Board of County Commissioners, which shall be duly filed with the Clerk of the Board of County Commissioners, and the overseer shall also submit all such receipts when requested so to do to the County Commissioner of his district or to the Board of County Commissioners when making his reports or at any other time when called upon so to do.

Sec. 14. In pursuance of the provisions of this Act of work by the several road overseers appointed under this Act shall require every person performing labor, either in person or by substitute, to perform such labor in a good and satisfactory manner both as to quality and amount; and in case of failure so to do the overseer shall dismiss such person, or such substitute, and require them to pay in lieu thereof the amount as specified in this Act, and such person shall be deemed and be held to be a road defaulter as though he had not performed, or not attempted to perform, any road work, and after return thereof and upon conviction for such default or neglect shall be adjudged guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by fine or imprisonment, or both, at the discretion of the court, under the general law providing for punishment for commission of misdemeanors.

AN ACT Authorizing and Empowering the Board of County Commissioners of Washington County, Florida, to Adopt Maps and Plats of Real Estate Situate in Washington County, Florida, for the Purpose of Assessment and Collection of Taxes, the Said Maps and Plats To Filed and Recorded in the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Said County.

Be it Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: Section 1. That the Board of County Commissioners of Washington County, State of Florida, be, and the same is hereby authorized and empowered to adopt and approve maps and plats of any real estate situated within said Washington County, Florida, not described by legal subdivisions, according to the United States survey, for the purpose of assessment and collection of taxes, and the as

sessment of such taxes be referred to such maps and plats, after such maps and plats have been adopted by the Board of County Commissioners, and filed and recorded in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of said county, and a collection of such taxes shall be as legal and valid to all intents and purposes, as if such assessments were made by describing such real estate by metes and bounds.

Sec. 2. All laws and parts of laws in conflict with the provisions of this Act be, and the same are hereby repealed.

Sec. 3. This Act shall take effect immediately upon its passage and approval by the Governor.

CHAPTER 6317-(No. 198).

AN ACT to Amend Section 4, Chapter 5565, Laws of Florida, the Same Being An Act to Organize and Establish a County Court in and for Washington County, Florida; to Provide for the Appointment of a Prosecuting Attorney for Said Court; to Fix and Provide for the Compensation of the Judge and Prosecuting Attorney of Said Court; to Inhibit the Judge from Practicing Law; to Prescribe the Terms of Said Court; and to Provide for the Transfer of Causes Pending in Other Courts at the Time This Act Goes Into Effect Within the Jurisdiction of the County Court; Approved May 23, 1905, as Amended by Chapter 6019.

Be it Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

Section 1. That Section 4 of Chapter 5565 of the Laws of Florida, as amended by Chapter 6019, be amended so as to read as follows:

Sec. 4. The Judge of the County Court shall receive for his services as Judge the annual salary of five hundred dollars; payable quarterly by the county; Provided, That this compensation shall exclude all fees or other compen

sation which the said Judge of the County Court, as such, might receive or be entitled to under or by virtue of any other laws, but that it shall not exclude or effect any fees, salary or other compensation which the County Judge, as such, may receive or be entitled to in matters in which he acts under the law as County Judge.

Sec. 2. This Act shall take effect immediately upon its passage and approval by the Governor.

CHAPTER 6318-(No. 199).

AN ACT Relating to Tax Assessments and the Collection of Taxes in the City of Alachua, Florida.

Be it Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: Section 1. The City of Alachua, Florida, shall have power to raise by tax and assessment upon all real and personal property, all sums of money which may be required for the improvement and good government of the city and for carrying out of the powers and duties herein and heretofore granted and imposed.

Sec. 2. The city may make its own assessment of property for taxation. All assessment of property for taxation shall be as nearly as practicable in the manner now provided by the law of the State for the assessment of taxes. It shall not be necessary to describe personal property assessed for taxation, and the term "personal property" shall be a sufficient description to sustain any listing and assessment of the personal property of any person, firm or corporation.

Sec. 3. All persons, corporations or firms holding property whether real or personal, subject to taxation by the City of Alachua, are hereby required to make a return of the same before the fifteenth day of June A. D. 1911, and before the first day of April in every year thereafter, to the City Tax Assessor.

Sec. 4. Such return shall be made upon and in compliance with blanks prepared therefor and furnished by the City of Alachua, and shall contain a complete list of all
