CHAPTER 6123-(No. 4).

AN ACT Making Partial Appropriation for Legislative
Expenses, Session of 1911.

Be it Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

Section 1. That the sum of ten thousand dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated in part payment of the expenses of the Legislature of 1911.

Sec. 2. That this Act shall take effect upon its passage and approval by the Governor.

CHAPTER 6124-(No. 5).

AN ACT to Fix the Pay of Members, Officers and Attaches of the Legislature of A. D. 1911, and Certain Expenses of the Legislature.

Be it Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

Section 1. That the pay of the members of the present Legislature, convened April 4th, 1911, shall be a per diem of six dollars per day in addition to the mileage by the Constitution of the State of Florida at ten cents per mile each way.

Sec. 2. That the pay of the Secretary of the Senate and the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives and of all Clerks elected by the Senate or House of Representatives, and the Official Stenographers of the Senate and House of Representatives, except Committee Clerks, shall be six dollars a day each. The pay of all Committee Clerks authorized by the Senate or the House of Representatives shall be $5.00 per diem except the Clerks of the Judiciary Committees of the Senate and House of Repre sentatives, who shall receive six dollars per diem.

The pay of the Committee Clerks and Mailing Clerks shall be five dollars per diem from the date of certificates clerks. of their appointment to the Chairman of the respective Committees on Legislative Expenses until the end of the session.

The pay of the Secretary of the Speaker of the House Speaker's of Representatives shall be five dollars per diem.

The Secretary of the Senate and the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall each be entitled to pay for fifteen days after the adjournment of the Legislature at the rate of six dollars per day to bring up the work of the Journal, and the Assistant Secretary of the Senate shall be entitled to pay for five days after adjournment at the rate aforesaid.

Recording

The Recording Secretary of the Senate shall be entitled Recording to pay for thirty days after the adjournment, in order to complete the recording; and the Recording Clerk of the House of Representatives shall be entitled to two days clerk. after the adjournment in order to complete his work, such payment to be made, however, only after the completion and delivery of the Journal, and the Comptroller is hereby authorized to issue warrants on the State Treasurer in favor of the Recording Secretary of the Senate and of the Recording Clerk of the House of Representatives, respectively, for the additional days herein provided for; but

no warrant shall be issued therefor to such Secretary or Clerk except upon the delivery of the receipt of the Secretary of State setting forth that such Secretary or Clerk has recorded in full the Journals of the Senate or House of Representatives, and that the Record Books have been duly filed in the office of the Secretary of State.

The Bill Secretary of the Senate shall have pay for ten days and Bill Clerk of the House of Representatives shall have pay for five days after the adjournment of the Legislature to complete their unfinished work and to return their books and bills properly indexed, assorted and labeled in convenient form for reference, to the Secretary of State; payment to be made upon the certificate of the Secretary of State, that such duty has been performed.

Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall each receive seventy-five dollars for preparing the Daily Calendar of the House of Representatives; Provided, that the Engrossing and Enrolling Secretaries of the Senate, and the Engrossing and Enrolling Clerks of the House of Representatives shall receive six dollars per diem. That the Sergeant-at-Arms of the Senate shall be allowed two assistants for Saturday to mail out Senate Journals.

Sec. 3. The per diem and mileage of the members of the Senate and of the House of Representatives, and the per diem of the Secretaries, Clerks, Attaches of the Senate and House of Representatives shall be prepared in pay roll form, and those of the Senate shall be approved by the President of the Senate and attested by the Secretary of the Senate, and those of the House of Representatives shall be approved by the Speaker of the House of Representatives and attested by the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives, and the Comptroller shall audit and issue his warrant on the Treasury for the same.

Sec. 4. The actual traveling expenses of all members of the various visiting committees shall be prepared in payroll form and certified to by the Chairman of the Committee on Legislative Expenses of either House respectively, and the Comptroller shall issue his warrant for the same.

issue his warrant or warrants for the same.

Sec. 6. This Act shall take effect immediately upon its approval by the Governor.

CHAPTER 6125-(No. 6).

AN ACT Making Appropriation for the Support and Maintenance of the State Institutions for Higher Education Created and Required to be Maintained by Chapter 5384, of the Laws of Florida, Approved June 5th, 1905, now Known as the University of Florida, the Florida State College for Women, the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, and the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College for Negroes.

Be it Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

Section 1. That the sum of Four Hundred and Thirty- $431,000 apone Thousand ($431,000) Dollars or so much thereof as shall be necessary, is hereby appropriated for the support, improvement and maintenance of the University of Florida, the Florida State College for Women, the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, and the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College for Negroes, required to be supported and maintained by Chapter 5384 of the Laws of Florida, approved June 5th, 1905, which sum shall be placed to the credit of the State Board of Education in the hands of the State Treasurer, as follows:

For the Florida State College for Women, One Hundred and Thirty-six Thousand, Five Hundred ($136,500) Dollars.

For the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, Eighty-two Thousand, Five Hundred ($82,500) Dollars. For the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College for Negroes, Thirty Thousand ($30,000) Dollars.

The balance of Five Thousand ($5,000) Dollars to be expended by the Board of Control for its authorized expenses.

Sec. 2. That out of the appropriations hereby made, the State Board of Education shall set apart the interest deficit required to be paid under Section 31 of said Chapter 5384 of the Laws of Florida.

Sec. 3. That this Act shall not be construed as in any wise affecting the appropriations made for the support and maintenance of the Institutions herein named by Chapter 5384 of the Laws of Florida, approved June 5th, 1905; by Chapter 5602 of the Laws of Florida, approved May 30th, 1907, and by Chapter 5961 of the Laws of Florida, approved June 12th, 1909, the unexpended balances of said appropriations being hereby continued in force. CHAPTER 6126-(No. 7).

AN ACT Requiring Teachers Summer Training Schools and Making Appropriations Therefor.

Whereas, The Value of the Public School System is meas-
ured by the Character of the Teachers Employed; and
Whereas, Teachers' Summer Training Schools Are Recog-
nized as Among the Most Potent Means of Improving
Teachers, and as being the Form of Normal Instruction
Which Reaches the Largest Number of Teachers, and
Hence Whose Benefits Are Most Wide-spread; there-
fore,

Be it Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
