H. Spurgeon. "We can commend very heartily this series of discourses."-Scottish Congregational Magazine. "We regret that our space does not permit us to enter into a detailed account of the merits of this work, or even quote from its pages; but for the sober judgment, sound argument, mature thinking and diction, and the extensive acquaintance with choice literature it displays-above all, as the result of twenty years' study of the sacred oracles-we very cordially commend this volume to the attention of our readers." Dalkeith Herald. "The whole is invested with a fervour and glow of eloquence such as could only spring from a highly-gifted mind in full sympathy with the lofty themes on which it expatiates. We have been particularly pleased with the chapter in which Mr Reid discusses the objections to the eternity of future punishment this masterly chapter."-The League Journal. "The style is clear and forcible, and there are frequent passages of much beauty and eloquence."-Berwickshire News. "We heartily commend this able treatise on noble Christian themes as fitted to be eminently useful."-The Daily Review. "He possesses imagination as well as that class of preachers and writers who gain a little notoriety by startling the world with new views, or more frequently with old heresies, on such topics; but he also has what the class of teachers referred to, do not seem to possessnamely, the power of keeping imagination within proper limits. We have read this volume with very great satisfaction.' - The United Presbyterian Magazine. 704 pp., Crown 8vo, Price 5s., Post Free, THE TEMPERANCE CYCLOPÆDIA.
