MY DEAR FRIENDS,

As this Volume owes its appearance to your uniform kindness towards me, especially during the past year, you must permit me to dedicate it to you. Indeed, it could not have a more appropriate Introduction; and I beg to present it to you as my EASTER OFFERING.

I ought, perhaps, to apologize for its not appearing before, as some of you have requested. But considering the numerous volumes of unexceptionable Discourses already published, I could not think it necessary to add to the number: and aware that an affectionate people's partiality for their own minister often leads them to form too

flattering an estimate of his pulpit addresses, I have felt a hesitation to obtrude them on the public. But what these considerations have prevented me from conceding to the wish of my friends, I am now induced to offer them, as an expression of my acknowledgment for their kindness, which has been as generous as unexpected.

I have now only to pray, that what you have heard with so much attention and indulgence may not disappoint you in the reading; and that the blessing of the Holy Spirit may descend upon you and enable you to profit by what you read. TO HIM BE ALL THE PRAISE.

May the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, keep your hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord!

I remain,

Your affectionate Friend and attached Pastor,

Ham Lodge, Easter, 1836.

JAMES HOUGH.
