That there shall be, and is hereby established, the office of city sexton, who shall have charge of the cemetery; his fees and compensation to be established hereafter.

AUTHORISING THE CENTRAL WHARF COMPANY TO EXTEND THE WHARF TO DEEP WATER.

The People of the City of San Francisco do ordain as follows:

That the wharf company known as the Central Wharf Joint Stock Company, be and are hereby authorised to complete their wharf out to deep water, pursuant to their charter, confirmed to them by the late ayuntiamento, as speedily as possible.

FOR THE COLLECTION OF TAXES.

The People of the City of San Francisco de ordain as follows:

SECT. 1. That the assessment roll made by the city assessors be, and the same is hereby confirmed.

SECT. 2. That one per cent. on all property real and personal, be, and the same is authorised to be collected upon the assessment roll as returned by the board of assessors.

SECT. 3. It shall be the duty of the city collector forthwith to proceed to collect all taxes as above directed.

SECT. 4. All taxes shall be paid on or before the 15th day of October next ensuing, but any person or persons paying his or their taxes, on or before the 1st day of October next, shall be entitled to a deduction of three per cent. upon their tax list.

SECT. 5. All persons refusing or negleeting to pay their taxes as provided by the preceding section, shall be charged, in addition, ten per cent. upon their tax list, for the first thirty days after such refusal or neglect, and at the same rate for any proportion of time within the said thirty days.

SECT. 6. All persons neglecting or refusing to pay their taxes within thirty days succeeding the fifteenth day of October next ensuing, shall be subject to suit of attachment of their property by the city, for such taxes; and after notice of thirty days, in two of the public journals of this city, such property shall be sold for such taxes, to the highest bidder, subject to an additional charge of twenty per cent. for the delayed payment, in addition to the ten per cent. for the first thirty days. All scrip shall be received by the collector of taxes, for its par or nominal value, and such scrip as is matured shall be received, with the addition of the interest upon said scrip.

SECT. T. The books of the assessors shall be kept by the comptroller of the city, in his office, subject to the inspection of any citizen interested as a tax payer.

IN ADDITION TO AN ORDINANCE FOR GRADING AND PLANKING CLAY STREET.

The People of the City of San Francisco do ordain as follows:

SECT. 1. That Clay street shall be graded and planked as far west as the grade shall come out with the present surface between Dupont and Stockton streets.

SECT. 2. That the street commissioner shall get the assent of the property holders immediately, thereto, that the present work may not be impeded in its completion.

SECT. 3. If such assent shall be given then the contract shall be given to the present contractors, for the lower part of Clay street, it being understood they take it at the same rate.

SECT. 4. That if the present contractors will not take said contract then the street commissioner shall advertise for three days in the Picayune for bids to complete the work, and be given to the lowest bidder; bids to be opened in the presence of the street commissioner.
