INCORPORATE THE CITY OF SAN FRANCISCO.

PASSED APRIL 12, 1850.

The People of the State of California, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

ARTICLE I.

Of boundaries, general powers, and formation of Warde.

SECT. 1. The boundaries of the city of San Francisco shall be as follows: The southern boundary shall be a line two miles distant in a southerly direction from the centre of Portsmouth square, and which line shall be parallel to the street known as Clay street. The western boundary shall be a line one mile and a half distant in a westerly direction from the centre of Portsmouth square, and which line shall be parallel to the street known as Kearney street. The northern and eastern boundaries shall be the same as those of the county of San Francisco. But nothing in this section shall be construed to divest or in any manner prejudice any right or privilege to which the city of San Francisco may be entitled beyond the limits above described.

SEOT. 2. The inhabitants of the city of San Francisco, within the limits above described, shall be and they are hereby constituted a body politic and corporate in fact and law, by the name and style of "The City of San Francisco," and by that name they and their successors shall be known in law, have perpetual succession, sue and be sued, implead and be impleaded, defend and be defended in all courts of law and in all aetions whatsoever;
