REGULATING THE DUTIES OF THE TAX COLLECTOR.

The People of the City of San Francisco do ordain as follows:

SECT. 1. That the tax collector, for all payments made to him for taxes, which shall be paid in the scrip of this city, he shall, for the future, make out two receipts or certificates therefor, in which shall be set forth the number of the particular scrip so received by him, one of which shall then be delivered to the person so paying, and the other filed in the comptroller's office.

SECT. 2. That all collections by said tax collector of the scrip, as aforesaid, shall be delivered by him into the office of the treasurer every Monday morning, taking the receipt of the latter for the same. And it is hereby made the duty of said treasurer to grant his receipt for all such scrip so aforesaid deposited with him.

SECT. 3. That the treasurer be, and is hereby ordered, to pay or hand over to the comptroller, every Tuesday morning, for the future, all the scrip so being in his hands, as aforesaid, and to take a receipt therefor from the comptroller.

SECT. 4. That the comptroller shall keep a strict and faithful schedule of the scrip so received from the hands of the treasurer, setting out the character, amount and number of each certificate of the said scrip, and that he cause the amount thereof to be published in the public newspapers, at least once a week.

SECT. 5. That all the scrip which shall come into the hands of the said comptroller shall be carefully examined and counted by a committee, consisting of not less than five members of this body, of whom one shall be the mayor, and when so examined the same shall be publicly burnt, or otherwise canceled.

SECT. 6. And it is hereby ordered that all the scrip hereto. fore issued, and which is now in the hands of the comptroller, be and the same is hereby ordered to be in like manner examined, counted and compared, by the committee above provided, and

when so examined, &c., the same to be in like manner destroyed, and the amout so canceled to be published in the newspapers of this city.

AUTHORISING COMMISSIONERS TO SEARCH THE RECORDS AT SONOMA.

The People of the City of San Francisco do ordain as follows:

SECT. 1. That the commissioners appointed on the 17th day of June last by the common council of this city, under an ordinance "creating a commission to inquire into city property," are hereby authorised and empowered, in order more fully to carry out the requirements and intentions of said ordinance, to procure from the State archives, now at Sonoma, such information as can be obtained, touching, or in any way relating to the subject upon which they are required to report by said ordinance; and also such facts concerning original grants of lands lying within said limits as may be found recorded in said books.

SECT. 2. That the sum of five hundred dollars is hereby appropriated to defray the necessary disbursements in making such examinations, and the chairman of the said board of commissioners is hereby authorised to draw upon the city treasurer for said

amount.

FOR THE ISSUE OF ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY

THOUSAND DOLLARS OF SCRIP.

The People of the City of San Francisco do ordain as follows:

That the Comptroller be and is hereby authorized to issue one hundred and fifty thousand dollars in city scrip, payable one hundred and eighty days after date, or redeemable out of the first money borrowed by the commissioners of the sinking fundcity property pledged for its redemption.

This amount being in addition to issues authorised by former ordinances.

FOR THE COLLECTION OF ASSESSMENTS ON
CALIFORNIA STREET AND OTHERS.

The People of the City of San Francisco do ordain as follows:

SECT. 1. That the assessment list for the improving of California street, from Sansome street, Montgomery street, Sacramento street, from Kearny to Dupont street, and Jackson street, from Sansome street to Montgomery street, be and hereby is confirmed.

SECT. 2. That it shall be the duty of the collector of assessments to present, as soon as practicable, to each and every property holder or his agent, a bill of his proportion of such assessment, and to obtain the payment thereof without delay.
