School 82, annex, Queens, for the temporary care of Public School 45, Queens, from September 21, 1914, to January 30, 1915, at the rate of $10 per month, subject to action, as may be necessary, by the Board of Estimate and Apportionment and the Board of Aldermen, be, and it is hereby, approved and ratified; and be it further

Resolved, That the Board of Estimate and Apportionment be, and it is hereby, requested to take action, if necessary, in reference to the matter mentioned in the foregoing resolution, in accordance with Section 56 of the Revised Charter.

(c) Resolved, That the action of the Committee on Care of Buildings in assigning the following-named janitors to the temporary care of public school buildings, as indicated below, subject to action, as may be necessary, by the Board of Estimate and Apportionment and the Board of Aldermen, be, and it is hereby, approved and ratified:

Resolved, That the Board of Estimate and Apportionment be, and it is hereby, requested to take action, if and where necessary, in reference to the matters mentioned in the foregoing resolution, in accordance with Section 56 of the Revised Charter.

(d) Resolved, That the action of the Committee on Care of Buildings in appointing the following-named persons as cleaners, as indicated below, their names having been selected from eligible lists furnished by the Municipal Civil Service Commission, be, and it is hereby, approved and ratified:

(e) Resolved, That the action of the Committee on Care of Buildings in transferring the following-named persons, as indicated below, taking effect July 1, 1915, be, and it is hereby, approved and ratified:

() Resolved, That the action of the Committee on Care of Buildings in relieving Daniel S. Garvey, janitor of Public School 1, Brooklyn, from the temporary care of the seventh floor of the Cary Building, taking effect at the close of business on July 14, 1915, and in assigning Matthew J. Brown, janitor of Public School 5, Brooklyn, to the temporary care of these premises, with compensation at the rate of $50 per month, taking effect July 15, 1915, be, and it is hereby, approved and ratified.

(g) Resolved, That the action of the Committee on Care of Buildings in granting Anton Schreiner, janitor of Public School 22, The Bronx, a leave of absence without pay for a period of six months from July 1, 1915, for restoration of health, be, and it is hereby, approved and ratified.

Mr. GILLESPIE offered the following preamble and resolution, which was adopted:

Whereas, Under the provisions of Section 2 of the By-Laws the first meeting of the Board of Education in September next will occur on the 8th of the month, the second day after Labor Day and five days before the reopening of the schools, and it is probable that there will be little business to transact at that time; and

Whereas, If meetings of the Board of Education are held on September 8th and 22d, there will be an interval of three weeks between the meeting on September 22d and the meeting on October 13th; be it

Resolved, That the stated meetings of the Board of Education for September, 1915, be held on September 15th and 29th, and that a meeting with a quorum of 15 (if necessary) be held on September 8th, if such meeting is deemed advisable by the PRESIDENT, and that any provisions of the By-Laws inconsistent therewith be, and they are hereby, suspended for the purpose of this resolution.

Mr. PINK offered the following resolution, which was adopted:

Resolved, That the Committee on By-Laws and Legislation be, and it is hereby, requested to prepare such By-Laws or amendments to By-Laws as said Committee may deem necessary in order to make effective the report of the Special Committee on Community Centres which was presented to the Board of Education on April 28, 1915 (see Journal, pages 738-43), and approved by said Board, upon a report of the Executive Committee, on June 9, 1915 (see Journal, page 954).

During the call of the calendar Mr. BARONDESS offered the following resolution, which was adopted:

Resolved, That the Committee on Finance be requested to make provision in the Departmental Estimate for 1916 for the increases in the salaries of the various employees made by the Board of Education during the current year and which have not become effective.

Subsequently Mr. GREENE moved that the action taken by the Board in

adopting the foregoing resolution be reconsidered, and the motion was seconded

and adopted.

Mr. GREENE moved that the resolution offered by Mr. BARONDESS be referred to the Committee on Finance, and the motion was seconded.

After discussion, participated in by Messrs. WILE, GREENE, BARONDESS, WINGATE and NEWMAN and the PRESIDENT, Mr. STEIN moved that the resolution be amended by adding thereto the following:

"Provided, however, that nothing herein contained shall be deemed to limit or modify any action heretofore taken by the Board, but shall be deemed to be wholly in confirmation thereof."

The PRESIDENT put the question whether the Board would adopt the amendment offered by Mr. STEIN, and it was decided in the affirmative.

Mr. GREENE thereupon withdrew the motion offered by him, and the resolution offered by Mr. BARONDESS, as amended, was adopted.

NEW BUSINESS

The Secretary called attention to Section 1063 of the Revised Charter and Section 12 of the By-Laws, providing for the election of the Executive Committee in the month of July.

Mr. FERRIS moved that the Secretary be instructed to cast one ballot in favor of the re-election of the present members of the Executive Committee.

The motion was seconded, and was adopted by a unanimous vote.
The Secretary cast one ballot, as instructed.

The PRESIDENT thereupon announced that the members of the Executive Committee had been duly re-elected for the ensuing year, as follows:

(a) July 14, 1915-Transferring, subject to the approval of the Board of Education, Elias A. Hartman, a teacher in Public School 29, The Bronx, to Public School 14, Manhattan.

(b) July 14, 1915-Recommending that the leave of absence for two years from March 5, 1915, granted to Mrs. Frances E. Morse, a teacher in Public School 36, The Bronx, be terminated on September 1, 1915.

(c) July 15, 1915–Transferring, subject to the approval of the Board of Education, Margaret E. Hyde, assistant to principal in Public School 61, Manhattan, to Public School 41, Manhattan.

"Resolved, That the City Superintendent of Schools, or, in his absence, the Acting City Superintendent, be, and hereby is, authorized to nominate such persons as may be necessary for service in evening schools and vacation schools and playgrounds, and to recommend the organization and discontinuance of vacation schools and playgrounds, and to perform such other work of the Board of Superintendents as may be necessary, between the date of the adjournment of the Board for the summer and the first meeting of the Board in September, 1915."
