The CHAIRMAN pro tem announced that CHAS. BULKLEY HUBBELL, having received the votes of a majority of the members of the Board, was duly elected Chairman for the ensuing year, and appointed Trustees ANDERSON and EUSTIS a Committee to escort the Chairman-elect to the chair.

The CHAIRMAN announced the next order of business to be the election of a Secretary for the ensuing year.

Trustee PRENTISS nominated ARTHUR MCMULLIN, which nomination was seconded by Trustee AGAR.

The CHAIRMAN appointed Trustees PEASLEE and PRENTISS to act as Tellers.

The Tellers presented their report as follows:

The CHAIRMAN thereupon declared that ARTHUR MCMULLIN, having received the votes of a majority of the members of the Board, was duly elected Secretary for the ensuing year.

The CHAIRMAN presented a communication from the Board of Estimate and Apportionment, apportioning the funds for the support of the College for 1897, as follows:

"THE COLLEGE O OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK. "For salaries of Professors and officers, Scientific Apparatus, Books and Supplies, Support and Maintenance, and all other expenses, including alterations and repairs to buildings (Chapter 398, Laws 1896)...$175,000

"A true copy of Final Estimate for 1897, adopted by the Board of Estimate and Apportionment Dec. 31, 1896. (Signed) CHAS. V. ADEE,

Referred to the Executive Committee.

Clerk."

Trustee KETCHUM offered the following resolution for adoption: Resolved, That Edward E. Van Saun be, and he hereby is ap

pointed Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees of the College of the City of New York, at an annual salary of two hundred and fifty dollars ($250).

Unanimously adopted.

The absence of Trustees MACLAY, MONTANT and WEBB from this session was excused.

The CHAIRMAN announced that in the absence of Trustee WEBB he had invited Prof. R. Ogden Doremus, Vice-President of the College, to a seat with the Trustees.

Trustee KETCHUM moved that the Board take a recess for ten minutes to enable the Executive Committee to prepare its reports for presentation at this session, after which the Board go into executive session.

Adopted.

AFTER RECESS.

Trustee KETCHUм presented a report from the Executive Committee appropriating the funds for 1897, and submitting the following resolution for adoption:

Resolved, That the sum of one hundred and seventy-five thou

sand dollars ($175,000), being the amount allowed by statute for the support of the College of the City of New York for the year 1897, be, and the same is hereby appropriated in the several sums and for the several purposes named herein, to be paid as may be required upon the approval of the Executive Committee of the pay rolls and bills incurred, subject to the laws and regulations of the Board governing payments:
