RESOLUTIONS

ADOPTED BY THE CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION.

RESOLUTION

To commemorate the death of Capt. Augustus Quarles.

Resolved, That the patriotism, courage, and heroic achievements displayed by Capt. Augustus Quarles, and the men under his command, who have fallen in Mexico, while fight ing under the flag of their country, were worthy of the people of our infant state, and their names and acts deserve to be held in perpetual remembrance.

Resolved, That it is recommended to the people of the state to erect, by voluntary subscription, a monument with suitable inscriptions, commemorative with the names and services of our fellow citizens above named, to be placed upon the public grounds in front of the capitol.

Resolved, That it is hereby made the duty of the state treasurer to receive any moneys contributed as herein recommended, and the same shall constitute the Monument Fund," to be expended in such manner as the legislature may prescribe for the objects contemplated in these resolutions, and no other.

Resolved, That the presiding officer of this body be directed to appoint one or more persons, as may be deemed necessary, in each of the counties of this state to receive subscriptions to said fund and transmit the same, with the names

of the donors to the treasurer of the state, to be reported to

the legislature.

Resolved, That the foregoing resolutions be signed by the president and countersigued by the secretary and deposited in the office of secretary of state.
