Resolved, That the money so received shall be liable to be and so much thereof as shall be necessary, is hereby appropriated to the payment of the expenses of holding the convention to form a constitution for the State of Wisconsin the current year, and may be paid out in such manner as the convention shall provide.

Resolved, That the faith of the Territory and future State of Wisconsin is hereby pledged to repay to the said canal fund, the sum which shall be directed in pursuance of the above resolutions, to the purposes aforesaid, whenever the same shall be required to be repaid for the purpose of executing the trust created by Congress in making the canal grant," and all laws contravening these, are hereby repealed.

JOINT RESOLUTION providing for the payment to William W. Brown, out of the canal funds, the sum therein named.

RESOLVED by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That the receiver of the canal fund is hereby authorized and directed to pay to William W. Brown the sum of forty-five dollars out of any moneys which shall come into his hands from the proceeds of the sale of any of the canal lands, being the amount of an appropriation made to J. A. Noonan, by an act entitled "an act to provide for the payment of territorial expenses therein named," approved February 18th, 1842: Provided, That said Brown shall surrender to said receiver a certificate issued by the Auditor of the Territory to J. A. Noonan or bearer, dated March 22, 1842, for said appropriation, of which said certificate the said Brown is the bearer.

JOINT RESOLUTION relative to procuring a sett of standard weights and measures.

RESOLVED by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That the Treasurer of the Territory be authorized and directed to procure a sett of standard weights and measures, such as were in legal use in the State of New York on the fourth day of July, 1839, and cause the same to be duly sealed by the Secretary of State of New York aforesaid, and kept at the office of said Treasurer for the use of the Territory: Provided, That the cost of procuring such weights and measures, so scaled, shall not exceed the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars. APPROVED January 20, 1846.

RESOLUTION requiring the Secretary of the Ter ritory to redeem certain bonds and scrip in the hands of the Treasurer of the Territory.

RESOLVED, by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That the Treasurer of the Territory be and is hereby requested to present to the Secretary of the Territory for payment all scrip, bonds or other evidences of debt in his hands, or which may hereafter come into his hands, which the said Secretary is authorized to pay under and by the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury of the United States.

RESOLUTION for the appointment of a committee to examine the bank of Mineral Point.

RESOLVED, by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That a joint committee, consisting of one member of each House, be appointed to examine into the affairs and condition of the Bank of Mineral Point, and to ascertain and report the amount and kind of assets of the said bank now on hand; the amount of liabilities of the bank now existing, and specifying the amount of its bills now in circulation, the amount of bills that have been redeemed since the first day of September, 1841, and in what manner and from whom such bills have been redeemed, so far as can be ascertained; the amount of payments that have been made on account of the liabilities of the bank since the first day of September, 1841, to whom made and in what manner, and with what means; what dividends have been paid to the holders of the bills of the bank since the first day of September, 1841; in what manner and with what means paid; to whom paid, and by what authority. That said committee have power to send for persons and papers, and to examine witnesses under oath; and that they make such examination as soon as practicable after the adjournment of the present session of the Legisla tive Assembly, and make their report in duplicates and send one copy to the Secretary of the Council and the other to the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to be by them laid before. their respective Houses at the next session of the Legislative Assembly.

Resolved, That no compensation shall be paid to said committee for their services or expenses in making said examination nor to any witness by them examined.

RESOLUTION instructing the Superintendent of Territorial Property to prepare a room for the safe keeping of the public arms and equipments. RESOLVED by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That the Superintendent of Territorial Property is hereby required to prepare a suitable room in this capitol, at the seat of government, for the safe keeping of the public arms and equip

ments.

APPROVED January 29, 1846.

RESOLUTION relative to the offices of the Auditor and Treasurer of the Territory.

RESOLVED by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That the Auditor and Treasurer of the Territory be allowed the sum of fifty dollars per annum, from the 4th day of February, 1845, to meet the incidental expenses of their respective offices; and that the further sum of fifty dollars be appropriated to be expended by the Auditor in the purchase of the necessary furniture for his office, and the said Auditor and Treasurer shall account for the disbursement of the same in their next annual report.

RESOLUTION relative to a Light House at Sauk Harbor.

RESOLVED by the Council and House of Representatives of Wisconsin Territory:

That the honorable Delegate of this Territory to Congress, be requested to urge upon Congress the necessity of making an appropriation for a Light House at Sauk Harbor, within this Ter ritory.

APPROVED January 14th, 1846.

RESOLUTION providing for a final settlement of the claims of Daniel Baxter.

RESOLVED by the Council and House of Representatives of the Territory of Wisconsin:

That the Territorial Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized and directed to pay over to Daniel Baxter eight of the remaining territorial bouds retained as the residuary amount of said contract: Provided, That said Baxter will receive the same in full satisfaction and relinquishment for all unsettled claims, demands or damages which he may have against the Territory.
