MORAL REFLECTIONS &c.

CONTINUED.

LORD, thou art GOD which haft made Heaven and Earth. Emmanuel, GOD with Us. Acts IV. 24. Matt. I. 23.

All thy Works praife Thee, O LORD! the great Creator of Heaven and Earth. Eastern Songs,

In thefe lov'd Scenes what rapt'rous Glories fhine, Attract the Eyes, and do the Heart refine! What facred Beauties beam throughout the whole, Which frike the Senfe, and fteal upon the Soul! Such Profpects HERE do open to our View,.. They charm the Mind with Something ever new.

PART IV.

JEHOVAH-JESUS! LORD of ALL!
To Thee my Heart I raise;
On Thee, my GOD, for HELP I call,
Affift my feeble Lays.

Thou art the ANGEL'S GOD in Heav'n,
The CHRISTIAN'S GOD on Earth;

To Whom Alone be Glory giv'n
By All of Heav'nly Birth.

"The

The Chriftian's Here, by Light from Thee,
With All in Heaven join;
Approach thy bleft HUMANITY,
And know 'tis ALL DIVINE.

The Seal's being loos'd, They clearly fee.
Thee and the Father ONE;

And wifh that All may bow the Knee
To thee, who'rt GOD ALONE.

Who, by thy Angels, rules Our Earth,
Conducts thy righteous Plan;

And, by Thy WORD, thro' Them brings forth
In Us, a Heav'nly Man.

Permit Me, LORD, then to defire
Thy Mercy may incline,

My GUARDIAN ANGELS to inspire
My Heart with Things Divine.

That this my SECOND Vifit Here
May have an ufeful End,
And fpread THY GLORY far and near
By Lines which may be penn'd.

O that They may thy GOODNESS tell,
Make known Thy Pow'r and Love;
Attract fome thoughtless Souls from Hell
To feek the Things Above.

They'll then be kept from ev'ry Ill
By Angels fent from Heav'n,

And, IF OBEDIENT, will fulfil
Thy righteous Precepts giv'n.

Vill foon from Earth to Heav'n remove

To join the Angels bright,

id There, with Them, for Ever love
What's holy, juft and right.

or Ever There delight to do
Heavn's Laws of Love Divine,
nd chearfully thofe Works purfuè,
To which They now incline.

nder thy kind PATERNAL EYE
O LORD, I afk their Aid;

nd now addrefs Them as moft nigh
To help Me, willing made.

Once more, YE ANGELS! help my Song

In this delightful Park,

That I may, as I walk along,
GOD's glorious Works remark.

Once more, I fay, my Verfe infpire;
Tranfmit fome heav'nly Rays,
That I may, from Coleftial Fire

The Scenes of Hawkftone praife.

Extol their BEAUTY, own that Hand
To be indeed DIVINE,

Which caus'd fuch Works, fublimely grand,
In HAWKSTONE Park to shine.

Thy Works They are, ETERNAL LORD!
From Thee They have their Birth;
In Them thy Name. fhould be ador'd
By Us who dwell on Earth.

[blocks in formation]

HERE thy Creation's Wonders åre
Display'd to Mortal Sight,

Who, if difpos'd, may gladly fhare
Much Pleasure, and Delight.

May HERE be fill'd with Reverence,
His Soul be rais'd to GOD;
From WHOм He may receive a Senfe
Of what is right and good.

Because in GOD is Love most pure
To All the Human Race,

A LOVE that Ever will endure,
And fhou'd in Man take place...

Whoever will, I think, may fee
The Origin of Nature;

And who gave Birth to Ev'ry Tree,
As well as Ev'ry Creature.

Their Source muft furely be Divine,
They muft from GOD come forth;
And, tho' defil'd by Man, ftill fhine,
And fhow their Heav'nly Birth.

They fpeak to All this Leffon true,
That GOD created Them;

And that All fhou'd his Greatnefs view
From whom fuch Glories came.

Be led thereby HIM to adòre,
His Goodness Here to fee;
And worship HIM for evermore
in great Humility

When

When I furvey'd thefe Scenes laft Yeer
The Day was calm and sweet,

But Yet it's ftill more bright and clear,
Now Them once more I greet.

The Sun, that Source of Heat and Light
From which All Pleasure find,

Hath chas'd the Darknefs of the Night,
And chearful makes the Mind.

When abfent Here what Gloom enfues,
When prefent All is gay;

By IT how sweetly Man purfues
His Work from Day to Day.

All which moft beautifully fhow

A Hand that is Divine,

And, from the LORD, on Man beftow
More than the golden Mine.

It's genial Heat All Things receive,
And are enliven'd Here;
Without whose Rays, They could not live
In this terreftrial Sphere.

How ftrikingly doth this display
To us a brighter Sun,

From whofe Divine Cœleftial Ray

Light fhines in ev'ry One.

Nay, gives Exiftence to the Soul,

Upholds it ev'ry Hour;

And will, whilft endlefs Ages roll,
Communicate it's Pow'r.
