"There is no doubt at all that 'Pepita Ximenez' is one of the best stories that have appeared in any country of Europe for the last twenty years."-GEORGE SAINTSBURY, in The New Review.

"The fascination of Dona Luz' and her history is that of a most tender and tragic beauty. We know hardly any figure in fiction more lovely and affecting. It is all very fine and masterly work, scarcely to be matched in the contemporary fiction of our language, if that is not putting the case too faintly."-W. D. HOWELLS, in Harper's Magazine.

MISS SHAW denounced man's disposition to claim everything, at a woman s convention in Kansas City the other day. Why," she said, "there's Old Abe, the bald eagle-the men named him Abe-they say 'he' screams and 'he' stretches his wings; he does this and he' does that. He was carried through the war and then taken to the Centennial. He was pointed out to the youth of the land as the emblem of liberty. The truth is, after Old Abe was taken to Madison, Wis., he got tired of doing nothing and went to laying eggs."- Argonaut.

Great Keys

Such as St. Peter carried in pictures, an the rest of us carried in discomfort, wen suddenly out of use on the introduction of the famous " YALE" locks. The some happy people jumped to the cond sion that any small key meant a" YALE lock. Not so. It's easy to make a worth less lock with a little key, and it take less metal. Your protection lies in on word. See that "YALE" is stamped of every Key. If that is there, security i there also. Sold wherever locks sell

A Novel. By JULIEN GORDON, author of "A Diplomat's Diary," "Vampires," "A Puritan Pagan," etc. I vol., 12mo, cloth, $1.00.

Julien Gordon (Mrs. Van Rensselaer Cruger) has in "Marionettes" written the strongest novel that has yet come from her pen. Like her other stories, its interest is contemporaneous and human. The scene is laid on the Long Island coast and shifts for a moment to Paris, then back to New York. The characters, though few, are well limned. Whether they are portraits from the life or not is for the reader to say, but in either case it must be pronounced a story of absorbing interest.
