expenses of the public schools and of the board of education of said city, to the thirty-first day of March, eighteen hundred and eightytwo, and to pay such bills and claims now remaining unpaid by said board of education, as shall be found due, and be properly audited by the finance committee of said board, and be duly approved by said board. Said common council may anticipate the said amount by loan. Said amount of not exceeding forty-six thousand dollars, or such part thereof as has not already been anticipated for the purpose, shall be placed to the credit of the said board of education, and shall be used for no other purposes than as specified in this section.

§ 2. Said amount of not exceeding forty-six thousand dollars shall be assessed and collected together with the other general city taxes for the next ensuing fiscal year.

§ 3. This act shall take effect immediately.

CHAP. 70.

AN ACT to confirm certain deeds made to Ashbel H. Barney as president of the United States Express Company.

PASSED April 17, 1882. The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The deed bearing date the tenth day of October in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine, executed by Ashbel H. Barney and Susan T. Barney, his wife, to Ashbel H. Barney as president of the United States Express Company, a joint-stock company, composed of more than seven stockholders, having its principal place of business in the city of New York, which deed is duly recorded in the office of the register of the city and county of New York, in liber one thousand five hundred and nineteen of conveyances, at page one hundred and thirteen, and the deed bearing date the ninth day of July in the year one thousand eight hundred and seventy-seven, and executed by Peter A. Frasse and Rosetta M. Frasse, his wife, to Ashbel H. Barney as president of the United States Express Company, which deed is duly recorded in the office of the register of the city and county of New York, in liber one thousand four hundred and twenty-six of conveyances, at page forty-five, are hereby confirmed and declared valid, and shall have the same effect, for all purposes, as if the said United States Express Company had been allowed by law to purchase, hold, and convey the property described in said deeds; and such confirmation shall inure for the benefit of all subsequent grantees and mortgagees of the whole or any part of the premises described in said deeds.

§ 2. This act shall take effect immediately.

CHAP. 71.

AN ACT to enable and empower the trustees of the village of Skaneateles to receive and hold trust funds for cemetery purposes.

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The trustees of the village of Skaneateles may take and Trustees hold any property, real or personal, devised, bequeathed or given upon my tod trust, to apply the income thereof, under the direction of said trustees, real and for the improvement or embellishment of the village cemetery, or for estate for the erection or preservation of any building, structures, fences or cemetery walks erected or to be erected upon the lands of such village cemetery, or upon the lots or plats of any of the proprietors; or for the repair, preservation, erection or renewal of any tomb, monument, gravestone, fence, railing or other erection in or around any cemetery lot or plat; or for planting and cultivating trees, shrubs, flowers or plants in or around any such lot or plat, or for improving or embellishing such cemetery, or any of the lots or plats in any other manner or form consistent therewith, according to the terms of such grant, devise or bequest.

§2. This act shall take effect immediately.

CHAP. 72.

AN ACT to legalize, ratify and confirm the acts of tne supervi-
sors of the respective towns of Chautauqua county, and the
acts of the board of supervisors of said county, and of the
clerk of said board of supervisors in making a grand jury list,
and to legalize, ratify and confirm the grand jury list of said
county.

SECTION 1. The acts of the supervisors of the several towns of Chautauqua county, and the acts of the board of supervisors of said county, supervis and of the clerk of the said board of supervisors of said county, in fed. selecting, adopting, certifying and filing a grand jury list for said county of Chautauqua, for the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two, is in all things hereby legalized, ratified and confirmed. §2. The grand jury list for the county of Chautauqua, for the year Grand jury one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two, filed in the office of the lists clerk of the county of Chautauqua, by the clerk of the board of supervisors of said county, on the thirteenth day of December, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-one, is hereby in all things legalized, ratified and confirmed; and the same as filed is hereby declared to be the grand jury list for the county of Chautauqua for the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two, and the said list shall have the same force and effect, and be of the same validity as if

AN ACT to amend chapter five hundred and twelve of the
laws of eighteen hundred and seventy-nine, entitled "An
act to authorize gas-light companies to use electricity instead
of gas for the lighting of streets, public places and public
and private buildings in cities, villages and towns within
this state."

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and
Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section one of chapter five hundred and twelve of the laws of eighteen hundred and seventy-nine, entitled "An act to authorize gas-light companies to use electricity instead of gas for the lighting of streets, public places and public and private buildings in cities, villages and towns within this state," is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

§ 1. Any corporation duly organized under the act entitled "An act to authorize the formation of gas-light companies," passed February sixteenth, eighteen hundred and forty-eight, and the several acts amendatory thereof, and any corporation duly organized under the laws of this state, for manufacturing and using electricity, for producing light, heat or power, may use electricity as the means of lighting streets, avenues, public parks and places, and public and private dwellings of cities, villages and towns within this state.

2. This act shall take effect immediately.

CHAP. 74.

AN ACT to amend section one of chapter five hundred and fifty-seven of the laws of eighteen hundred and eighty-one, entitled "An act to regulate the salary of the county treasurer of Erie county.'

PASSED April 17, 1882; three-fifths being present. The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section one of chapter five hundred and fifty-seven of the laws of eighteen hundred and eighty-one, entitled "An act to regulate the salary of the county treasurer of Erie county," is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

§ 1. Every county treasurer hereafter elected or appointed in the county of Erie shall receive, as compensation for his services, an annual salary of not less than four thousand dollars or more than five thousand dollars, to be fixed by the board of supervisors of said county before he shall enter upon the duties of his office.

CHAP. 75.

AN ACT to amend chapter three hundred and eight of the laws of eighteen hundred and seventy-three, entitled "An act to amend the charter of the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy."

SECTION 1. Section four of chapter three hundred and eight of the laws of eighteen hundred and seventy-three, entitled "An act to amend the charter of the Buffalo Fine Arts Academy," is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

SECTION 1. CHAP. 77.

AN ACT to amend chapter eight hundred and fifty-seven of the laws of eighteen hundred and seventy-two, entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to incorporate the Poughkeepsie Bridge Company for the purpose of constructing and maintaining a bridge, appurtenances and approaches to the same over the Hudson river at a point or points between the city of Poughkeepsie and the town of Lloyd, Ulster county, on said river, passed May tenth, eighteen hundred and seventy-one." "

PASSED April 18, 1882.

The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section two of chapter eight hundred and fifty-seven of the laws of eighteen hundred and seventy-two, entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'An act to incorporate the Poughkeepsie Bridge Company for the purpose of constructing and maintaining a bridge, appurtenances and approaches to the same over the Hudson river at a point or points between the city of Poughkeepsie and the town of Lloyd, Ulster county, on said river, passed May tenth, eighteen hundred and seventy-one,' ," is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

The time limited in the first section of said act for the commencement of said bridge is hereby extended to January first, eighteen hundred and seventy-four, and the time limited therein for the completion of said bridge and opening the same for use is hereby extended to January first, eighteen hundred and eighty-eight.

CHAP. 78.

AN ACT to authorize the board of supervisors of the county of Greene to borrow money by issuing the bonds of said county, for building a poor-house, and to provide for the payment of such bonds.

PASSED April 19, 1882; three-fifths being present. The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The board of supervisors of the county of Greene is hereby authorized and empowered to issue and sell, in the manner prescribed by law, the bonds of said county, not to exceed in amount the sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, bearing interest not to exceed five per centum per annum, and not to be sold at less than their par value, the proceeds of which shall be appropriated and used by said board as a building fund to pay for the construction of a county poorhouse for said county upon the premises belonging to the county, connected with the existing poor-house for said county, and for no other purpose whatever. Said bonds shall be made to become due as follows: One-tenth thereof, namely, twenty-five hundred dollars, in each year for ten successive years, beginning with the year eighteen hundred ble. and eighty-three, with interest payable semi-annually.
