hool segregation in any northern city is a complex problem t explained by generalizations. Buffalo is no exception. would have been impossible to prepare this report in the lotted time without the generous cooperation of a large mber of people who are intimately familiar with the Buffalo hools. A list of all the persons who were helpful would be ngthy. Special mention will be made of a few. The Supertendent of Schools, Dr. Joseph Manch, opened the facilities his office and gave generously of his time. All the assoate superintendents assisted, at one point or another, by eparing essential factual material. Dr. Lillian A. Wilcox, sociate Superintendent for School-Community Coordination, came the focal point for gathering information. Her store ready information and insight into problems were invalu›le. Her willingness to participate in this study both durig and after office hours undoubtedly added more to the re>rt than the work of any other single individual.

Raphael DuBard, president of the Buffalo Branch of the itional Association for the Advancement of Colored People NAACP) contributed not only his own valuable insight but Iso arranged for meetings with officers and other members of is organization. The views of Claude Clapp, a school prinipal, were particularly enlightening. The Board of Eduation was extremely helpful. Three of its members, Samuel . Markel (the president), Mrs. Alfreda W. Slominski, and r. Lydia Wright discussed their viewpoints at length with he author.

These people are only a few of the many who aided the auhor in various ways. To them and to the others go his hanks. He alone, however, bears the responsibility for the onclusions drawn.
