Ver. 24. Thou shalt not bow down to their Gods nor ferve them. Deut. iv. 15. Take good Heed unto yourselves:

Numb. xxv. 2. They call the People unto the Sacrifices of their Gods, and the People did eat, and bowed down to their Gods.

Ver. 3. And Ifrael joined himself to Baal-peor, and the Anger of the Lord was kindled against Ifrael.

Ver, 4. And, the Lord faid to Mofes, take all the Heads of the People, and hang them up before the Lord.

143. Tranfgrefors of this Commandment among the People of Ifrael, and the Enticers thereto, to be put to Death by the Hands of Men. Deut. xiii. 1. If there arife among you a Prophet, or a Dreamer of Dreams, and giveth a Sign or a Wonder, and the Sign or the Wonder come to pafs, whereof he fpake, faying, let us go after other Gods. Ver. 5. That Prophet, or that Dreamer, fhall be put to Death, Ch. 18. 20. 1 Sam. 26. 19.

xiii. 6. If thy Brother, the Son of thy Mothers or thy Son, or thy Daughter, or the Wife of thy Bofom, or thy Friend which is as thine own Soul, entice thee, faying, let us go and ferve other Gods.

Ver. 8. Thou shalt not confent unto him, neither fhall thine Eye pity him, neither fhalt thou fpare, neither fhalt thou conceal him, but. thou fhalt furely kill him, thine Hand fhall be firft upon him to put him to Death, and afterward the Hand of all the People.

Ver. 12. If thou fhalt hear fay, in one of thy Cities,

Ver. 13. Certain Men the Children of Belial are gone out, and have withdrawn the Inhabitants of the City, faying, let us go ferve other Gods;

Ver. 14. Then thou fhalt make search diligently, and if it be Truth, Ver. 15. Thou fhalt fmite the Inhabitants of that City with the Edge of the Sword, and deftroy it utterly : Ver. 16. It shall be an heap for ever.

Elijah mocked the Priefts of Baal, faying, cry aloud, for he is a God, either he is talking, or he is purfuing, or he is in a Journey, or peradventure he fleepeth and must be awaked.

147. Images the Use of them forbidden, with preventative Threat

Exod xx. 4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven Image, nor any Likeness of any Thing that is in Heaven above, or that is in the Earth beneath, or that is in the Waters under the Earth, thou fhalt not bow down to them, nor ferve them, for I the Lord thy God, am a jealous God, Chap. 34. 17. Lev. 19. 4.-26. 1. 30. Deut. 4. 16, 17, 18, 19. 25.-5. 8-16. 22.

Deut. xxvii. 15. Curfed be the Man that maketh a graven or a molten Image, an Abomination to the Lord.
