Mr. Olds presented the memorial of John T. Brazee and others, a committee appointed by a public meeting of the citizens of Fairfield county, to memoralize the Legislature upon the subject of widening the canal between Lancaster and Carroll, together with the resolutions of said public meeting.

Mr. Randall presented the petition of Erastus Chester and 33 others, citizens of Rome township, Ashtabula county, asking the Legislature to pass a local law for Ashtabula county, to prevent swine from running at large in said county.

Mr. Reemelin presented the petition of 81 citizens of Richland county, of both political parties, asking the General Assembly to direct Thomas Corwin to resign his seat, and to confine the said Corwin in the Ohio Penitentiary until the close of the war.

Mr. Johnson objected to the reception of the petition.

Mr. Archbold asked that it should be read, and it was read at the Clerk's desk.

Mr. Kendall presented the petition of a large portion of the stockholders of the Portsmoth and Columbus Turnpike Road Company, asking an amendment to their charter, &c.

Mr. Scott presented the petition of Solomon R. Miller and 67 other citizens of Putnam county, praying for an amendment to the laws establishing certain free turnpike roads in said county.

Message from the House of Representatives. Mr. Speaker:

The following bills have been introduced into the House and read the first time:

H. No. 100; For the repeal of the act inflicting capital punishment, and for other purposes.

H. No. 101; In relation to the outstanding notes of the Bank of Xenia.

H. No. 102: To amend the act incorporating the town of Troy, in the county of Miami, passed March 7, 1842, and to repeal certain sections of act amendatory thereto, passed February 26, 1846.

H. No. 103; To erect the county of Gilead.

H. No. 104; To give the several courts of this State power to grant divorces in cases of hopeless insanity.

The House has passed the following bill:

S. No. 28; To amend an act entitled an act to authorize the sale and conveyance of certain lots in Mansfield, Richland county, passed February 5, 1847.

Also, the following joint resolution, in which the concurrence of the Senate is requested.

Relative to requiring the clerks of the two Houses to procure skeleton maps of the State of Ohio, for the use of the members.

Mr. Wilson moved to amend said House resolution as follows: Strike out all after the resolving clause and insert "That the clerks of the two Houses be and they are hereby authorized to purchase from Mr. Ei T. Tappan one of the plain copies of his proposed statistical maps for each member of this General Assembly, and that provision for payment thereof be made in the general appropriation
