Mr. Horton presented the petition of G. W. Althos and 60 other voters of Gallia and Meigs counties, asking for a law to lay out and establish a graded State road from Pomeroy, by Rutland, in Meigs county, to Wilkesville, in Gallia county, and to Jackson, in Jackson county, by Middleton, in said county:

And a similar petition from J. M. Myers and 56 others of Jackson county.

Referred to a select committee of one-Mr. Horton.

Mr. Wilson presented the petition of H. Bell and sixty other citizens of Greenville, Darke county, for authority on the part of said town to take stock in the Greenville and Miami Railroad.

The Speaker presented the remonstrances of Benjamin Adams and 156 other citizens of Muskingum county, against any mutilation of said county for the erection of the new county of Walhonding;

Also, of Wm. Rickets and 225 other citizens of same county, on the same subject;

Also, the remonstrance of James R. Satt and 43 other citizens of Coshocton county against the erection of the county of Walhonding.

Referred severally to the committee on New Counties.

Also, the petition of Daniel Eaton and 61 other citizens of Ohio, praying such an amendment of the Constitution of the United States, as will enable the people of the United States to vote directly for President and Vice President.

Mr. Burns presented the petition of Capt. J. S. Fulton and 85 other citizens of Ashland county, praying that the county of Ashland may be erected into a separate brigade, and attached to the 11th division of the Ohio militia.

The same gentleman presented the petition of Robert Lee and 58 other citizens of Crawford county;

Also, of Daniel Riblett and 68 other citizens of Richland county; Also, of Frederick Kaler and 60 other citizens of Richland county, praying for a charter for the Pennsylvania and Ohio Railroad. Referred to the committee on Railroads and Turnpikes.

Mr. Spindler, from the committee on Common Schools and School Lands, reported back House bill No. 105, to amend the act entitled "an act for the support and better regulation of Common Schools in the town of Akron," passed February 8, 1847, recommending its

passage.

Mr. Beaver, from the committee on Claims, to which was referred the petition of John R. Prot and Thomas Cary for relief for disburse

ments made by them on account of the 2nd brigade, 15th division, Ohio militia, reported for adoption the following resolution :

Resolved, That the memoralists have leave to withdraw their papers, and that the committee be discharged from the further consideration of the subject.

Mr. Eaton, from the committee on Roads and Highways, reported back House bill No. 125, to lay out and construct a graded State road from Middletown, in Jackson county, to Vinton in Gallia county, with an amendment; which was agreed to.

Mr. Randall, from the committee on Corporations, reported back S. No. 17, to incorporate the First Universalist Society, in Wright township, Guernsey county, recommending its indefinite postpone

Mr. Lewis, from the committee on Common Schools and School Lands, reported back Senate No. 59, to amend the act for the support and better regulation of the public schools in the town of Zanesville, passed March 12, 1839, recommending its engrossment.

Ordered to be engrossed and read the third time on tomorrow. Mr. Spindler, from the same committee, reported back the letter of Wm. M. Orr, in reference to the vote taken in Greene township, Hamilton county, in relation to the sale of a certain school section, asking to be discharged from its further consideration; which was agreed to.

The same gentleman, from the same committee, reported back H. No. 40, to authorize the sale of school section 16, in Richfield township, Lucas county, recommending its passage.

Mr. King, from the committee on New Counties, to which was referred the petitions, remonstrances and papers in relation to the new county of Cumberland, reported them back, and asked to be discharged from the further consideration of the subject; which was agreed to.

Mr. Claypool, from a select committee, reported back H. No. 97, to amend an act entitled "an act to amend an act entitled an act to provide for a uniform standard of weights and measures," passed Feb. 21, 1846, recommending its indefinite postponement.

Mr. Kendall, from a select committee to which the subject was referred, reported a bill (S. No. 66) to incorporate the Portsmouth Bridge Company, in Scioto county; which was read the first time.

The Speaker of the Senate signed the following enrolled joint resolutions:

The House has agreed to the amendments of the Senate to House joint resolution "relative to printing extra copies of the report of the standing committee of the House on the Penitentiary."
