PREFACE.

THE following forms very nearly a complete collection of the cases relating to the Duties and Office of Justices of the Peace which have been determined by the Courts during the two years over which the volume extends. The approval of the Profession is shewn by the extent of its circulation.

The cases in the earlier part of this volume, to which the initials J. C. S. are attached, were reported by Jelinger C. Symons, Esq., under whose superintendence, in conjunction with one of the present Editors, A. Bittleston, Esq., the publication of this series of Reports commenced.

In compliance with requests from many quarters, the future volumes will be printed in a larger type, as being more easy for reference and more pleasant for reading.

Arrangements are made by which the cases of each Term will, it is hoped, henceforth be placed in the hands of the subscribers previous to the next ensuing Quarter Sessions. The difficulties attending a new enterprise have hitherto occasionally prevented the accomplishment of this portion of the design.

12th October, 1816.
