hope that the Department will require the contractors to live up to their specifications so that the school will not be handicapped by having the work continued during the fall and winter months; stating that in Public School 11 many changes are contemplated, including a fireproof stairway, that objection has been made to the plans offered, that "this Board would consider it a courtesy were the plans submitted for its consideration," and that "Possibly were the plans in our possession some solution of the question might be found"; suggesting the propriety of laying before the Local Board all proposed alterations and improvements in the schools under its care, some time before their adoption; stating that the auditorium roof in Public School 42, which has given such trouble, grows worse with the passage of time and renders some parts of the room useless, and suggesting that the difficulty might be overcome by closing in the out-door playgrounds with a roof, which would also provide for an all-weather playground and exercise room; stating that the work of the doctors and nurses throughout the district seems to be satisfactory and that the district has, perhaps, never been in better condition as to the standard of work, the excellence of the teaching force, the attendance and accomplishment of the children, the enthusiastic school spirit and the capacity and suitability of the school buildings. The report contains recommendations for alterations and repairs in and around Public Schools 3, 11, 41, 42, 44, 45, 54, 69 and 157. Signed, Ruth F. Russell, Secretary. (Received June 29, 1910.) DISTRICT No. 39-Stating that the number of pupils on part time in the schools of the district is 7,299; that, although thirty-two classrooms have been opened in Public School 84, they are filled by pupils belonging to that school, and it will be necessary in September to organize part-time classes in both departments; renewing the recommendation made in three previous reports for a building on Hopkinson avenue, near Pitkin avenue, for the relief of schools that will probably have more than five thousand pupils on part time in September; again recommending that the assembly room of Public School 125 be converted into classrooms, with rolling or folding doors; and stating that the records of the teaching force in the day and evening schools and recreation centres are very creditable.

Signed, Baruch Miller, Chairman; Mary M. Dammann, Secretary. (Received July 2, 1910.)

Ordered to be analyzed and referred to the appropriate committees, officials, etc.
