TWICE THIRTY

SOME SHORT AND SIMPLE ANNALS OF THE ROAD

By Edward W. Bok

Author of THE AMERICANIZATION OF EDWARD BOK, A MAN FROM MAINE,
TWO PERSONS, etc.

HE material forming the narrative and reflection which constitute this book is that of the personal side of the author's life. The "Americanization" was concerned principally with the professional side; this book has to do primarily with Mr. Bok's life outside of business-with that aspect of his personality which was not revealed in his business career. The implication of the title is that at the age of sixty a man has gained something of wisdom: he can better see what things were important in his life and in the life about him-what circumstances and actions have broad significance in life.

The result of the setting down of these circumstances and actions in this book is a fascinating narrative broken now and again by a chapter of reflections. The whole book is pervaded by an intimate quality growing out of the fact that it was undertaken originally for the sake of Mr. Bok's two sons, and is indeed addressed to them. It is an altogether remarkable achievement, a highly individualized book, full of interesting anecdote and sympathetic observation.

To be published January 9th. Price, $4.50

The Genius of Style

By W. C. Brownell

Stuart P. Sherman says: "A book sa-
vory with wit, of remorseless penetra-
tion, packed with wisdom, and in-
formed throughout by that nobility of
feeling which is quite the rarest note in
contemporary literature. In some re-
spects The Genius of Style' is Mr.
Brownell's most beautiful book-high
praise, because each of its predecessors
has been quite the best thing of its kind
hitherto produced in America.... Yes,
Mr. Brownell belongs to the Academy,
to the sons of that Academy which met
under the plane trees outside the city
wall and asked the gods that haunted
the spot, not in vain, for 'beauty in the
inner man.'"

THE NEEDLE'S EYE

The Novel of the Billionaire Era

By Arthur Train

A prominent critic says: "He has taken the rich material furnished by the families of J. P. Morgan and John D. Rockefeller (chiefly) and has welded all that is most characteristic in a harmonious whole-the Grahams of New York.... These Grahams of 'The Needle's Eye' are a gorgeous collection, and one can no more leave them after making first acquaintance than one can refrain from reading his morning newspaper. . . . Great stuff, Mr. Train!”

By Sidney Howard

Four brilliant long short-stories. Writing in Time, JOHN FARRAR says of one of these stories: "'Mrs. Vietch: A Segment of Biography' is as good a story as 'Ethan Frome'—a magnificent piece of writing.. Howard is an admiration of mine in the literary world because he is so forthright and so vivid. He writes with a sense of beauty, poetry, and rugged simplicity. If he wants to write of sex, he does it bluntly, in a manner Elizabethan; there is nothing sneaky about him. I have always suspected him of being one of the finest of our younger writers." $2.00

The Broken Bow

By L. Allen Harker

"I think it is one of the best if not the best book you've ever done. And your heroine, Susan, is delightful. I like her the best of all your young girls. Her behaviour to Mrs. Stowe is so beautiful. And how splendidly you've 'done' Aunt Claire and Julia and Alfrey. It's all so lovable. I'm glad Susan took the sensible view of the situation and didn't go off into heroics of self-sacrifice.
