the center of Jay street to a point at or near the center of Magne street; thence continuing westerly along the center of Jay street to the west boundary line of the city; thence northerly along the west boundary line of the city to a point where a line extended westerly through the center of Otis street would intersect the said west boundary line of said city; thence easterly, on said extended line, and along the center of Otis street to the center of Sherman street; thence northerly along the center of Sherman street to a point where a line drawn through the center of Sherman street would intersect the south boundary line of the lands of the State Industrial School extended westerly; thence easterly along said extended line to the center of the Erie canal; thence southeasterly along the center of the Erie canal to the place of beginning, shall constitute the fifteenth ward.

Sixteenth ward.— All that part of the said city included within a line beginning at a point where a line drawn through the center of North street would intersect a line drawn through the center of University avenue; thence northerly along the cen ter of North street to a point which is the intersection of the center lines of North street and North avenue; thence northeastely along the center of North avenue to the center of Bay street; thence easterly along the center of Bay street to the center of Hebard street; thence southerly along the center of Hebard street to the center of the tracks of the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company; thence southeasterly along the center of the tracks of the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company to the center of East Main street; thence westerly along the center of East Main street to the center of University avenue; thence northwesterly along the center of University avenue to the place of beginning, shall constitute the sixteenth ward.

Seventeenth ward.-All that part of the said city included within a line beginning at a point in the center of the Genesee river, where a line drawn through the center of the Genesee river would intersect a line extended southeasterly through the center of Evergreen street; thence northerly along the center of the Genesee river to where the north line of the city crosses the Genesee river; thence following the boundary line of the said city northerly to the north boundary point of the said city; thence southerly along the east boundary line of said city to a point where said boundary line intersects said north boundary line at

Norton street; thence easterly along the north boundary line of said city to a point where the northerly boundary line of the city intersects the east boundary line of the city; thence southerly and southeasterly along the easterly boundary line of the city to the center of Clifford street; thence westerly along the center of Clifford street to the center of Conkey avenue; thence southerly along the center of Conkey avenue to the center of Evergreen street; thence westerly along the center of Evergreen street, and continuing southwesterly along said center line, and continuing on a line extended southwesterly through the center of said Evergreen street to the place of beginning, shall constitute the seventeenth ward.

Eighteenth ward.-All that part of the said city included Eigh within a line beginning at a point where a line drawn through the center of North Avenue would intersect a line drawn through the center of Clifford street; thence easterly along the center of Clifford street to the easterly boundary line of the city; thence southerly along the easterly boundary line of the city to the center of the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad Company's tracks; thence northwesterly along the center of said company's tracks to the center of Hebard street; thence northerly along the center of Hebard street to the center of Bay street; thence westerly along the center of Bay street to the center of North avenue; thence northerly along the center of North avenue to the place of beginning, shall constitute the eighteenth ward.

Nineteenth ward.- All that part of the said city included Nineteenth within a line beginning at a point where the center of Bronson avenue would intersect a line drawn through the center of the lands now owned and occupied by the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad Company, being the land formerly used and occupied by the Genesee Valley canal; thence westerly along the center line of Bronson avenue to the center of Genesee street; thence northerly along the center of Genesee street to the center of West avenue; thence westerly along the center of West avenue to the center of Chili avenue; thence southwesterly along the center of Chili avenue to the westerly boundary line of the city; thence southerly on the westerly city line, in its various courses, to a point where the said westerly line of the city intersects the southerly line of the city; thence easterly and southerly, following

the said city line, in its various courses, until the said line intersects a line drawn through the center of the Genesee river; thence northerly in the center of the Genesee river, in its various courses, to a point where a line drawn through the center of the said Genesee river would intersect the south line of the Strong tract; thence northwesterly along the south line of the Strong tract to the center of the tracks of the Western New York and Pennsylvania Railroad Company; thence northerly, along the cen ter of the tracks of said railroad company, to the place of beginning, shall constitute the nineteenth ward.

Twentieth ward.—All that part of the said city included within a line beginning at a point where a line drawn through the center of Genesee street would intersect a line drawn through the center of West avenue; thence westerly along the center of West avenue to the center of Chili avenue; thence southwesterly along the center of Chili avenue, and continuing southwesterly along the center of a road formerly known as the Chili road to the easterly line of a highway called Lincoln avenue; thence northerly along the easterly line of said Lincoln avenue to the south line of the highway called the Buffalo road; thence easterly along the southerly boundaries of said Buffalo road to the present westerly city line; thence northerly along the present westerly city line to the center of Jay street; thence easterly along the center of Jay street to the center of Saxton street; thence southerly along the center of Saxton street, and on a line extended through the center of Saxton street to the center of Brown street; thence southerly along the center of Brown street to the place of beginning; the said westerly boundary lines being a part of the present westerly boundary line of the city; and the said part of the said city included within said lines, shall constitute the twentieth ward.

§ 3. Section seven of said act is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

§ 7. An election shall be held in each ward annually on the Tuesday next after the first Monday in March at such places as shall be designated by the common council, of which a notice shall be published by the city clerk for at least six days previous Officers to to the election, in all the daily newspapers of the city, at which election there shall be chosen by the electors of the city, voting in their respective wards, as often as the terms of office of the

then incumbent shall expire, within the year after such election, one mayor, who shall hold his office for two years; one police justice, who shall his office for four years; one treasurer, who shall hold his office for two years; and also, by the electors of each ward, one supervisor, whose term of office shall be the Supervisor. same as that of the supervisors from the towns of Monroe county, and the terms of office of the supervisors now in office in said city shall end at the same time as the terms of town supervisors now in office; one constable, who shall hold his office for one year; and at the election held on the Tuesday after the first Aldermen Monday in March, eighteen hundred and ninety-four, there shall commisalso be chosen by the electors of the fourth ward and of all the odd wards, except the third ward, one alderman and one commissioner of public schools, from each of said wards, and at the election held on the Tuesday after the first Monday in March, eighteen hundred and ninety-five, one alderman and one commissioner from the third ward and all the even wards, except the fourth ward; each of which shall hold his office for two years, and thereafter aldermen and commissioners of common schools shall be elected for two years as the terms expire of those elected from the respective wards. The aldermen and commissioners of common schools now in office shall continue to hold office as representing the territory from which they were elected, notwithstanding the change of ward numbers, until their terms of office shall severally expire. The city treasurer shall not be entitled to enter upon his office Bond of until he shall have executed and filed with the mayor a bond in urer. the penal sum of fifty thousand dollars, or such other sum as the common council may have fixed, with good and sufficient sureties, approved by the mayor, in writing, thereon, and conditioned for the faithful performance of all his duties as treasurer, and of all the duties imposed upon him by law, in respect to the money, property and affairs of the said city. The execution of such a bond by the treasurer and sureties, shall be duly acknowledged or approved, so as to entitle it be read in evidence, and it shall be the duty of the mayor to cause such bond to be recorded in the Monroe county clerk's office, and a copy of such bond, as so recorded, certified by the said county clerk, shall be as good evidence in all courts and places as the original bond, which shall be safely kept by the mayor, after being recorded as aforesaid.

Salary.

Duties of auditor.

Not less than thirty days after the passage of this act, and in every second year thereafter, the mayor shall appoint an auditor, whose term of office shall be for two years, or until his successor shall have been duly appointed and qualified. The said auditor shall enter upon his duties on the first Monday in May after his appointment. The said auditor shall not be entitled to enter upon his office until he shall have executed and filed with the mayor of said city a bond in the penal sum of tive thousand dollars, or such other sum as the common council shall ax, with sufficient sureties, approved by the mayor, in writing, conditioned for the faithful performance of his duties, as such auditor, and the duties imposed upon him by law. The said auditor shall receive a salary not to exceed three thousand dollars per annum, payable monthly, as other city officers are paid, such salary to be fixed by the common council annually, as other salaries are fixed. It shall be his duty to examine and pass upon all debis, demands and claims against said city, and each and every of its boards, officers and agents, including the board of education and the executive board of said city, before the same shall be ordered paid, and he shall keep a book, in which shall be recorded an account of each debt, demand and claim presented to him, and the sum allowed upon each, and he shall render to the common council, the board of education or executive board, detailed monthly reports of all such debts, demands and claims presented to, and allowed by him, as aforesaid, and all bills, dues and demands contracted or incurred during the preceding months, which have been presented to him for audit aforesaid, and except as otherwise provided by law, and except the fixed salaries of officers paid by the city, no debt, demand or claim payable from the city treasury, shall be paid, except the same is passed upon by said auditor and certified by him to the body, board or officer whose Objections duty it shall be to pay the same, and if he objects to any debt, demand or claim, in whole or in part, such objection shall be by him presented in writing to said bodies, officers and boards, respectively, whose duty it shall be to investigate the grounds of such objection before finally auditing or Audit and determining the manner of disposal thereof. Provided, claims for however, that said auditor may weekly examine and pass upon by items any statement of claims, dues or demands for labor per formed, which shall be certified to him for audit by said executive
