The Sarum Missal in English

There are three other copies known, one in the Chapter
Library at York; one at Maynooth College; and one
(imperfect) the property of the late F. H. Dickinson,
Esq. There is not a copy in the British Museum, where,
however, there is a nearly perfect copy of the very similar
folio edition of the Sarum Missal printed by Regnault at
Paris in 1531.

The only modern reprint of the Sarum Missal (Burnt-
island, 1861-83) is a reprint of the 1526 edition.' It was
therefore, obviously, the most convenient edition to take
from which to make the present translation.

It is desirable to give a description of its arrangement,

and an outline of its contents, especially as its scheme of

signatures and foliation (not pagination) is complicated,

and not at all clear for purposes of reference.

to pages in the present reprint cannot be given here,

because this Introduction is being prefixed to the first

volume before the whole of the text of both volumes has

been set up; but such pages will for the most part be

easily found by reference to Indexes 2 and 3.

With the exception of the Kalendar, which for some unexplained

reason was printed from the 1497 edition. There are some, though not

many, variations. The Kalendar in this volume is from the 1526

edition.
