ALBANY SEED STORE.

GARDEN and Agricultural Seeds, Flower Seed, Implements, Tools, &c. kept constantly for sale at the Seed Store, 38 Broadway, (formerly North Marketstreet,) whosesale and retail, consisting of a large assortment. It is the intention of the proprietor to test all seeds of which there is any doubt respecting their vitality, by sowing a few seeds in a small pot, before offering them for sale, and purchasers can test for themselves any seeds of which they are distrustful, by sowing a few in a box of fine earth and placing it in a warm room, exposed to the sun, where, if kept moist, the seed, if good, will vegetate in a reasonable time. In all cases where seeds prove to be bad, they will be replaced by others, or any reasonable satisfaction made.

Persons ordering seeds and implements from a distance, with whom I am unacquainted, without remitting payment, are expected to give references in this city or New-York. Catalogues of the whole collection gratis, and sent to order by mail. WM. THORBURN.

WHITE & OLMSTED'S AXES.

If an axe is broken where the steel is sound, it will be considered as done by unfair usage, and will not be received in exchange. No axe will be received in exchange unless returned within thirty days from date of purchase.

Those having axes on hand manufactured by White & Olmsted, entitled to exchanges on the same terms of warranty, may forward them to Cohoes, to the manufacturers, and others will be forwarded according to order.

The Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York.

THIS Company, having already over three hundred applications for life insurance, amounting to over one million of dollars, the premiums on which are upwards of thirty-three thousand dollars, will grant insurances on lives, upon the mutual principle, at their office, No. 44 Wall-street. Persons may effect insurance with this Company on their own lives or the lives of others, and either for the whole duration of life, or for a limited period. The trustees confidently believe that this institution will afford the most decided advantages to those who wish to insure their own lives or the lives of others. The terms of insurance are as favorable as those of any similar institution in the United States.

The nett profits of the business of this Company will be divided among the insured, in proportion to the amount of premium paid by them. By a provision in the charter, the liabilities of the members extend no farther than the amount of the respective premiums paid by them.

The Rates of Insurance on One Hundred Dollars on a Single Life for one year, are as follows:

INFLAMED, DISEASED AND WEAK EYES.

Dr. WHEELER, Oculist, 33 Greenwich-street, respectfully informs the public, that in consequence of his practice having become enlarged to so great an extent, he is compelled to confine his office attendance strictly between the hours of 8 A. M. to 1 P. M., after which hours he visits out-door patients.

Notwithstanding that among the many hundreds of cases which Dr. Wheeler has attended, many have been operated on by other professors without success, and pronounced by them incurable, he has never failed to eradicate the disease and effect a perfect cure, despite of every disadvantage which may have presented itself, and many instances almost against hope. It is this unprecedented success in the treatment of the various (hitherto considered incurable) diseases of the eye, that enables him with confidence to refer the afflicted, who may be unacquainted with him, and his mild mode of treating the disorders of this organ, to numerous restored patients in the first class of society, respecting his professional skill and abilities, being pre-eminent for his success as a scientific oculist.

Chronic inflammation of the eyelid, or sore eyes, however long standing, can be effectually and permanently cured; films and specks removed, without surgical operation.

STRABISMUS, (commonly called Squinting,)

Cured in a few seconds, by Guerin's celebrated plan, which is free from pain or danger. CATARACTS removed by any of the operations practised here or in Europe.

N.B. To save trouble, correspondents are informed that no letters addressed to Dr. Wheeler can be taken from the post office, unless postage is paid. New-York, May, 1843.

MERCANTILE AGENCY.

THIS Agency was established in this city, June, 1841, for the purpose of procuring, by resident and special agents, information respecting the standing, responsibility, &c. of country merchants residing in the States of New-York, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, the New-England States, New-Jersey, parts of Missouri and Pennsylvania, and the territories of Iowa and Wisconsin, for the benefit of such merchants in this city as approve the object, and become subscribers to the agency. The principles upon which this business is founded, are such as recommend them to every solvent and upright merchant in the community. The information obtained is from attorneys, cashiers of banks, old merchants, and other competent persons. It is not a system of espionage, but the same as merchants usually employ-only on an extended plan-to ascertain whether persons applying for credit are worthy of the same, and to what extent.

A large number of merchants in this city, in various kinds of business, approve and patronize the Mercantile Agency, and the number is constantly increasing. The greatest care is taken to have agents of intelligence, good judgment, extensive information, and integrity; and the information obtained is imparted to the subscribers confidentially, so as not to injure any one. This Agency has already been instrumental in saving to the subscribers large amounts, and in preventing worthless and unprincipled men obtaining goods, on credit from the merchants in this city. It is not known that injustice has" been done to country traders by this plan. The tendency of the agency is quite the reverse, and many merchants in the country who have examined into its merits, disinterestedly, unite with merchants in this city, who understand the principles of the Agency, in approving it, and recommending it to the favorable consideration of the mercantile community. Merchants are invited to call, when the terms and conditions will be made known to them. They can also make inquiries, without charge, to a sufficient extent to test the plan, and be satisfied of the value of the information. The agency is now firmly established, and will be made as perfect as possible. It has been, and will be, strictly a mercantile agency for the sole purpose avowed.
