THE DALLASTYPE SHAKESPEARE. Reproduction in imp. 8vo. of the First Folio 1623 edition. and Mr. William Shakespeare's Comedies, Histories Tragedies PUBLISHED ACCORDING TO THE ORIGINALL COPIES. LONDON. Printed by Isaac laggard, and Ed. Blount. 1623. MR. DUNCAN C. DALLAS has received permission from the Trustees of the British Museum, to photograph the whole of the celebrated First Folio 1623 edition of the Plays of Shakespeare. He will produce the book from the Negatives by his Dallastype process of photographic engraving. The size of the work will be Imperial 8vo. It is not too much to say that a copy of the 1623 folio is the cornerstone of any collection of English books, and that, if possible, a copy should be found in every library, public or private, in the world. Of course the excessive rarity of the book makes this impossible while the prohibitive. prices which copies fetch when they do occur (a perfect copy is now being offered in the catalogue of an eminent bookseller for £1,000) make it for most collectors, students, and librarians, a treasure to be dreamed of rather than possessed. Now it is claimed that this reproduction will present for a few pounds every essential point in the costly original, except the rarity. The collector may place it in his cabinet, and the librarian in the hands of the student of the "Immortal Bard," as being for all practical purposes the same as the original, even to the dotting of an 'i.' Every Such an exact verisimilitude has never before been attempted or attained. peculiarity in the original is facsimiled even to the errors in pagination, and other points, which distinguish the First Folio from all other editions. It is claimed (and it is admitted by all experts) that Mr. Dallas's method of reproduction comes very near to the ideal, in that it combines the accuracy of photography with the finished appearance and tone of the best style of typographical printing. Such an undertaking as the present one is surely an event of national-of worldwide importance. The publishers are sensible of the magnitude of their task, and rely fully on the support of the lovers of our National Bard in all parts of the world, to carry it to successful issue. The publishers have been induced to arrange for an edition de luxe on large paper, strictly limited to 250 copies, each numbered and signed. The work will be completed in 75 parts.
