ADVERTISEMENT.

THE Directors of the Scottish Temperance League having offered a First Prize of £250, and a Second Prize of £100, for the best and second best Temperance Tales, ninety-nine MSS. were received in reply.

The Rev. Alexander B. Grosart, Rev. George Hunter, Rev. George M'Arthur, M.A., Rev. James Stewart, M.A., Rev. Norman L. Walker, kindly consented to act as adjudicators, and the following is their decision:

GLASGOW, November 1st, 1864.

Having been requested by the Directors of the Scottish Temperance League to adjudicate on their offer of a First Prize of £250, and a Second Prize of £100, for the best and second best Temperance Tales, and having attentively examined the whole manuscripts forwarded in answer to the advertisements, being ninety-nine in number, we award the First Prize to the Tale denominated

"BY THE TRENT,"

and the Second Prize to the Tale entitled

"ROUND ABOUT THE BUSH."
