AN ACT to amend chapter 164, of the General Laws of 1859, entitled "An act to provide for the drainage and reclamation of the swamp and overflowed lands in the counties of Calumet, Brown, Oconto, Kewaunee and Door."

The People of the State of Wiscon, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Chapter one hundred and sixty-four, of to exclude Cal- the General Laws of 1859, entitled "An act to provide umet county for the drainage and reclamation of swamp and over

flowed lands in the counties of Calumet, Brown, Oconto, Kewaunee and Door," is hereby amended by striking out the word "Calumet," wherever it occurs in the title and body of the said act, and by striking out the fifth subdivision of section one thereof.

SEC. 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the town of Freedom, in the county of Outagamie.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. The time for the collection of all taxes, except the State tax, in the town of Freedom, in the coun1859 in Free-ty of Outagamie, due for the year 1859, is hereby extendom, Out. Co. ded until the tenth day of May next; until which time the treasurer of said town, by virtue of his warrant for

AN ACT to amend chapter three, of the General Laws of 1859, entitled "An Act in relation to the publication of legal notices."

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Chapter three, of the General Laws of Sundry amendments 1859, entitled "An Act relating to the publication of le- to law of 1859, gal notices," is hereby amended, as follows: by insert- relating to ing, in section one, the words "commenced or" before publication of legal notices. the word 66 completed," where the same occurs in the eighth line of said section: also by inserting the word "commenced," after the word "be," where the same occurs in the ninth line of said section: also by inserting, after the word "ordered," where it occurs in said section one, the words "or commenced:" also by inserting after the word "ordered," where it occurs in section two, of said chapter three, the words "or commenced."

AN ACT authorizing the Commissioners of School Lands to vacate a certain sale to Ephraim Cole.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. That the Commissioners of the school, and U. lands university, and swamp lands be, and they are hereby auvacate sale to thorized and instructed to vacate a certain sale of swamp Eph'm Cole. lands, heretofore made to Ephraim Coie, of the town of

Chester, in the county of Dodge, described as the north half of the north-east quarter of section thirty-five, town thirteen, north of range fifteen east, and to allow the said Cole to enter the north half of the north-east quarter of section thirty-four, in the town and range aforesaid, and to issue to him a patent therefor.

SEC. 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

AN ACT amendatory of, and supplemental to, an act entitled "An
Act to provide for the re-assessment of certain taxes in the city of
Racine, for the years 1856 to 1859, inclusive," approved February
10th, 1860.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in
Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SEC. 2. AN ACT to amend chapter 252, of the Local Laws of 1858, entitled "An Act to amend an act, entitled 'an act to incorporate the city of La Crosse,'" approved March 14, 1856.

The People of the State of Wisconsin, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as follows:

SECTION 1. Section three (3), of said chapter 252, of Amendm't to the Local Laws of 1858, is hereby amended, so as to read La Crosse city as follows: Section 3, of chapter seven, of the act to to collection of which this act is amendatory, is amended as follows: city taxes. "In all cases of non-payment of taxes upon lots or real estate in said city, in the manner now required by law, it shall be the duty of the treasurer of said city, to proceed in accordance with the provisions of existing laws relating to the sale of lands, for delinquent taxes, in the several counties of this State, whether the certificates of previous sales of said lots or real estate are held by the said city or not, to advertise and sell all delinquent lots and lands within the limits of said city, in the same manner as other lands are sold in said county of La Crosse;

and the said sale shall,in all cases, be made for the smallest undivided portion of the lot or tract for which any person will take the same and pay the taxes and charges thereon. On receiving the amount of such taxes and charges, the treasurer shall issue to the purchaser, his or Certificates by her hiers [heirs] or assigns, a certificate containing the city treasurer. name of the purchaser, and a description of the premis. es sold, the amount paid therefor, the rate of interest the same may bear, and [the] time when the right to redeem the same shall expire. And the treasurer shall keep a record of the lots or tracts sold, the name of the purchaser, the date and amount of sale, the time, by whom, and for what sum the same was redeemed, and the time when, and to whom, the same was conveyed, if not redeemed. And all sales so made and the certificate so issued by the treasurer of said city shall have the same validity and effect as if made by the county treasurer of said county."!!
